Nicknames: Austin Boxer Rescue

Arrival Story: Barbra came into rescue almost completely bald from demodex mange and very skinny. When she first went to her foster home, she hung her head very low and wouldn't look at her foster mom. She was immediately put on a special feeding schedule to get her to a healthy weight. Even though she was very skinny and hungry, Barbra has never shown food aggression to any of the other dogs in her foster home, but her mom is very careful to feed her separately just in case. She is slowly getting onto a normal feeding schedule like her foster brothers and sisters.
In order to treat her demodex mange, Barbra was put on medicine and has to take special medicated baths. The medicine she has to take is not very popular with any dog that her foster mom has ever had to give it to and it can be a struggle to get a dog to take. Not Barbra, she lets her mom give her the medicine and goes along her merry way. She is very good about taking her special baths too. She especially loves the part where she gets towel dried and she will bury her head in the towel for more more more until her foster mom is laughing too hard to keep toweling her off.
Barbra is really enjoying learning that humans will love and take care of her. The first time she wagged her nubbin at her foster mom, her foster mom almost cried with joy. Now she wags all the time and she gives boxer hugs too! She has learned to trust her foster mom and that she is safe in her foster home. She loves to cuddle and curl up in her mom's lap. Sometimes, she puts her head in her foster mom's lap for petting, and she falls asleep and starts snoring while she's still standing up!
Barbra lives with a number of foster brothers and sisters and she gets along great with all of them. Barbra's foster mom was SO excited the day she discovered the toys in the house. As she was playing with one of the stuffed sheep, her foster brother came over and stole it. Barbra didn't bat an eye...she just went back to the toy basket and found another toy to play with.
Barbra LOVES to go for walks and does great on the leash. She has never pulled even when her walking companions aren't being quite as well behaved. She is housebroken and crate trained. She doesn't like to go in her crate when her foster mom leaves for work, but with a little treat bribery, she will cooperate. She would probably be okay to be left out of the crate for shorter periods of time but would likely have an accident in the house if she was left out for too long.
Barbra has met some children and liked them just fine. She even let one little boy walk her on her leash and didn't pull him once. She has not been cat tested.

Leave a bone for Barbra
