Sun Sign: Quick Bio:
| -purebred | -blind | -dog rescue | |
 Birthday: February 17th 1992
Likes: napping, bedtime treats and having my tummy tickled

Pet-Peeves: bad weather (especially snow), doggy apparel (I have fur thank you!), being picked up

Favorite Toy: sadly, Portia has never really learned to play but her paw gestures are adorable!

Favorite Food: fresh ox tongue or pate - nice, soft things for a doggy missing quite a few teeth!

Favorite Walk: in French sunflower fields on warm, dry summer evenings

Best Tricks: things you can teach an old dog - like being housetrained at 10!

Arrival Story: Portia spent the first 10 years of her life in a puppy mill in Virginia, USA. She came to rescue since she was going to be destroyed as being too elderly to breed from. She was in a bit of a state - riddled with parasites and with a lot of emotional damage but she was lovely. In 2003 I moved back home to England and Portia came too - she has truly thrived here!

Bio: When she is scared which happens when anything remotely out of routine occurs, Portia has a tendency to shake! She is getting better though and is a different dog from the quivering one which came from rescue. She is still wary of strangers but is blissfully happy when the "pack" surrounds her and gives her love and fuss.

As a dog of considerable pulchritude, I thought it would be appropriate for me to share my beauty tips with others.
1. Get enough sleep
I cannot stress enough how vitally important it is to take sufficient naps. You should aim to sleep for about 20 hours a day. Although young pups can probably skimp two or three hours, this is not something I personally recommend. Try and find a place where you particularly enjoy a snooze then make a napping programme and stick to it. If you find it difficult to sustain the required discipline then team up with a doggy pal so that you can encourage each other to get more sleep.
2. Eat well
Gourmet delicacies are essential in providing the nutrients needed for maximum beauty. Do not permit your humans to substitute inferior victuals; you need to make your gastronomic requirements clear. I find that suitably disdainful expressions, possibly accompanied by discreetly timed and located bladder and bowel movements are effective ways of communicating with humans.
3. Take moderate exercise - in good weather
A gentle stroll in a dry environment is excellent for the physique and muscle tone. However, rain, wind and snow wreak havoc upon the complexion. When inclement weather strikes and your humans attempt a walk, do your business early on (see above on the powers of the bladder and bowel in communicating with humans) and then refuse to go further.
4. Visit the groomer regularly
This, I know, is a trial. Unfortunately, certain problem areas can only be adequately addressed by professionals. Nothing detracts from your retreating appearance more than a stray piece of faeces and yellow stains in the botty area are a tell-tale sign of inattention to the details of your beauty routine. Please note that while these are more noticeable in canines who are paler furred in the botty area, darker ladies need to be equally vigilant, owing to the accompanying unpleasant odours.
5. Accept yourself the way you are
We canines are all beautiful!

I have been tagged by the very beautiful Harrod (146165) and I have to tag three other doggies and explain why I have tagged them.
Meatball (125438)
I have tagged Meaty because he is one of the few pups I have met in dogson and he is simply an adorable bundle of love!
Smoke (140719)
I have tagged Smoke because I have always had a soft spot for this double dapple darling and he makes me laugh.
Cassie (233972)
I have tagged Cassie because she is a puppy-mill survivor just like me and she has many of the same insecurities but brings her pack much of the same delight.
