We had an early Christmas present this year. Copper was in the US in November and finished his AKC Companion Dog obedience title (CD). He earned it with personal best scores and we had fun doing it too!
Now that snow is around the corner, we are taking a bit of a break from obedience trials and getting ready for the next level.

Two years and alot of work have finally paid off for us. Eventhough Copper came to our family when he was 1 1/2, he was very much like an untrained puppy. We had to start from scratch and learn obedience and erase bad habits.
July was a wonderful month for us. We completed our Canadian CD title with two 2nd in class and two High in Class. We even went across to Michigan to start our American CD. We have one of three qualifying scores for that too! We are going back to complete the title in September.
All I hope for is that the obedience rings aren't in a poultry and rabbit exhibit building. That is another story in itself!!!!!
Happy Trialling:)

Had a wonderful day with Copper at our obedience trial! He performed so well. Today was the first time he had ever passed the offleash portion of Novice A and we also got 2nd place! So now we only need to do that 2 more times to receive our CD title!

Ok you can tell spring is finally here. All the critters are running around driving Copper nuts!
Most of the squirrels know to use the fence to run around the neighbourhood. Well a particular young black squirrel thought he was faster than Copper the other morning.
I let him outside and he seemed to be out longer than normal and not wanting to come in. Those of you with kids know that if it is too quiet there is trouble. Well it was a little too quiet outside and then i heard the incessant chirping and commotion of a squirrel. Must have been the squirrel's buddy saying for him to get his squirrel butt out of the yard. Well too late for warnings.
Copper was on a rock solid point and had the squirrel stunned on the ground. Everytime the squirrel moved Copper pounced. I tried to intervene but wasn't able to save the squirrel. Copper saw me coming and ran around the yard with it in his mouth like a trophy.
I went inside to get a shopping bag to dispose of it but when I came out there were no signs of the squirrel. Copper was just sitting in the grass licking his lips and looking so proud of himself.
My kids heard all the commotion and my 7yr old son thought it was the coolest thing to tell all his first grade buddies first thing Monday morning. This activity totally outdid Copper's newest pet trick of busting bubbles.
Yup! Who needs birds when you can chase bubbles. The kids think it is fun and Copper loves the exercise.

We had a great day at the obedience trial today. No ribbons or qualifying scores . This was the first trial of the season and we were soooooooooooo close to qualifying.
Anybody that has kept track with Copper knows how much trouble we have with off leash heeling. We are making progress. He stayed with me for 3/4 of it and was lagging too far back for the rest of it to qualify. It was the best I have seen it in the show ring though!
My dad video taped our two trials today and Copper looked so calm and amazing during the rest of the exercises. He looked like a pro. I have never really seen him on video much and he is such a beautifully marked boy! Very distinguished looking!
Hubby watched Copper's video and asked me if i drugged him I said no that is just how he is in the ring. He loves it and loves having a job to do.
Once we get the bugs worked out of the off leash stuff. We will be kicking some Brittany butts and start getting those high in classes and high in trials.
We have 8 weeks before the next trial but we are off to a great start.
Copper has done so amazingly well considering he was in 3 homes before I adopted him from ABR and considering he was such a wild child in the beginning. He is going to be one amazing dog and the people who gave him up have no idea what they gave up on.
Copper is a perfect example of how patience, hard work, and a whole lot of loving goes a long way!
