Birthday: September 30th 2003 Likes: Mommy's food, talking, when people come to visit me, socks, squeaky toys, belly rubs, dog parks, rice krisy treats and eating mommy's food! Pet-Peeves: Baths, ear-cleaning, when Mom cleans the goopy out of my eyes, bedtime Favorite Toy: Well, it's not much of a toy anymore, but it was a long stretchy pink thing with a tennis ball at the end.. Now it's just a long pink thing, but I love whipping it around! I also like my tug o' war rope! Favorite Food: Cheese, rice krispy treats, baby food, ice, my special yogurt treats, chicken and anything else mommy makes! Favorite Walk: Me? Walk? Please. I'm a Lady. You can pick me up and take me yourself if you want me to go. Best Tricks: I don't do tricks. I simply entertain. Ladies do not make fools of themselves. Arrival Story: Mom had wanted a dog for a long time. Daddy wanted a beagle, but Mommy didn't like beagles. She said they were too small and she liked big dogs. The day before Thanksgiving 2003, Mom and Dad went over to some of Mom's family's house to get together and Mom's aunt was there. Mom's aunt used to breed Bassets, so Mom and Dad went and talked to her and she said she didn't do it anymore, but her daughter did, so they went and talked to her daughter. Her daughter said that she sells bassets for $200 for male and $250 for female, but she had a basset that would be just perfect for them! She said that this puppy had gotten an eye infection when she was a wee baby and was partially blind. She couldn't be bred and could only have a limited registration and since Mom and Dad are family, they got ME FOR FREE! They came to pick me up and I was so excited to see them, but I was very sad when we left. I kept trying to go back and find my brothers and sisters. They finally picked me up and put me in Daddy's big truck and brought me home. I didn't like riding in his truck, I wanted to go back home so I threw up all over his floor! Mom held me while I threw up though and pet me and told me it was okay and then she made Daddy clean it up! I knew I liked her for a reason! Bio: Well, like I said above, Mom and Dad got me for free because I had an eye infection and couldn't be bred. One day I wasn't feeling very well and I couldn't poo very well. Dad took me to the vet and the vet wasn't very good, so we had to go to another vet. This vet knew more about Bassets and said I had a blockage, so she gave me stuff to help me get better and she checked out my eye. It turns out, I didn't have an infection. There is a dermoid cyst growing on my eye, but it doesn't bother me too much. Sometimes it itches, but it's not too bad. They said they can have surgery to have it removed, but no way am I going under that knife unless I just can't stand it anymore! Mom says I'm also very skinny. She feeds me a lot and I eat as much as I can, but I guess I'm just too active to keep any of the weight on. My vet says I'm healthy and that's the most important thing! Forums Motto: I'm a lady, ladies don't act that way. The Groups I'm In: Basset Babies I've Been On Dogster Since:
Today is Saturday!! Do you know what that means?? It means tomorrow is Sunday!! And do you know what that means?? That means I have a playdate tomorrow!!!! I am so excited!! I woke up at midnight last night and couldn't go back to sleep because I was so excited! I thought if I played, then I would get tired again but Dad got mad and made me sleep in my crate because he was cranky. Mom didn't even wake up, big surprise there! I guess she's used to me jumping all over her and pulling her hair. I love my Mommy. :)
Guess what?? My birthday is coming up!! I will be 2 years old! Only one more month, one week and two days!! I think Mom said something about having a birthday party for me. I hope so! She has a book that tells her how to make doggie cake and shirts and stuff. Maybe I'll get a ton of new things for my birthday! I can't wait!! I have to start working on an invitation list!!
Okay, well, I have to go get ready! Mom might take me to the dog park today!
Wow, it has been a long time since I have been on dogster! A lot of things have changed since I was here last!
Mom says I'm finally becoming a Basset. I don't know what that means, I've always been a Basset! She is starting to get on my nerves. Every time I lay down to go to sleep, she starts calling my name and wants to play with me. Geez, Mom. Just let me sleep already!!
Mom told me yesterday that I have a playdate on Sunday! We are going to the dog park to meet Sadie and Hami. I am so excited! She told me about it and I got so excited, I thought yesterday was Sunday. Boy, that was a big disappointment when I found out it was only Wednesday. It's okay though, Mom is really excited too and can't wait to meet them either. She also said I might be getting a new sister. See, we've been trying to get me a new brother for awhile, but the local Basset rescue doesn't have any houndies that will fit in our home. One of Mommy's friends on a basset site sent her a picture of a dog that needed a home, but he wouldn't have liked it here. He likes to be around people a lot and Mom and Dad have to work. Mom was sad, but then someone told her about Sadie and she was really excited. I hope I get a new brother or sister soon! I'm getting lonely and Mom is getting tired of hearing me ask for one!
Oh, Daddy found a tick on me yesterday. I don't know where it came from, but that sucker was big! Dad held me down and Mom got a pair of tweezers and pulled it off of me. Boy did that hurt!! I ran away and they got the dirtiest looks from me all night. That'll teach them.
Well, I have to go to bed now. Mom and Dad are getting sleepy, but tomorrow is Friday and that's the weekend, so Mom and Dad are going to try and let me sleep with them for the night! I am so excited!! I've only slept with Dad once or twice and that was because Mom was gone and couldn't squish me when she rolled over in her sleep! Oh boy, I better get to bed. The faster I go to sleep, the faster tomorrow will come. I am so excited!!
Hi guys! I haven't been around in awhile, things have been very crazy at home. The last time I was here was at the end of February, so I have a lot to say!
At the beginning of March, my mom was diagnosed with Ushers Syndrome Type 2. Her and Dad were pretty upset for a long time. I tried to be good, but sometimes I was bad and they yelled at me, but I knew they were under a lot of stress and that they didn't mean it, so it was okay. Then Mom left at the end of March to go on vacation. She was gone for a whole week and I really, really missed her. I got to spend a lot of time with Dad though. Well, when he wasn't putting everything in boxes, that is! Mom finally came home on a Saturday and I was all over her until Wednesday when Dad took me to Nana's house. I stayed over there for a week and played in the big back yard at my Memo's house, then went back to Nana's house at night. It was lots of fun, but I missed Mom and Dad.
Then Dad came to pick me up again and he took me home, but it wasn't the same home as before. I guess we moved or something because now I have my own little room, not just a place under the stairs. It's great!! I have a little place on the wall to hang my leashes and I have a bigger place to run around in and eat and our balcony is really big!! I can stand out on the balcony and look through the rails and see all the kids playing. Too bad Mom and Dad won't let me run out there with them. I bet I'd wear them all out and their mom and dads would be happy!
The only bad thing is that I got fleas while I was staying at Nana's. It makes me so sad and itchy. As soon as I got home, Mom and Dad plunked me right down in a tub of water and scrubbed me within an inch of my life. I sure did feel a lot better after that though. As soon as they were done, I jumped out of that tub and shook all that water off of me. Mom and Dad got a shower too! They weren't mad though, they stood there laughing and cleaning off the walls and cabinets. Dad kept telling me to get all that water out too. Then they sprayed some hydrocortisone stuff on me and man, does that stuff stink. I can't stand it, but it helps my itchies. I wish Mom & Dad would let me scratch, but everytime I start scratching, they tell me to stop and if I don't listen, they'll pull out that evil water bottle. I know what comes out of that, so I stop, but I wish they'd just let me scratch!
I guess other than that, my new home is great. I wanted to get a big brother, but Dad said no. He said that the other dog was too loud and we would get kicked out of our home or we would both be taken away. Mom cried and I was sad too, but I guess it's okay as long as I get to stay with Mom and Dad. They'll try to get me brother as soon as I learn to stop barking and as soon as we get situated at the new place. Dad wants to make sure that we get the perfect one, but Mom's got too soft of a heart. She wants to adopt every single Basset she comes across. She tells me all the time that one day, I'll have millions of brothers and sisters and Dad's just gonna have to get rich.
I've still been my lazy self. Mom and Dad bought me a new bed to put in the living room under the window, but I still prefer that couch. I wish they'd just let me sleep on the couch, but they say I smell too bad. If they think I smell, they should smell themselves! Especially Dad after he eats onions and chips. Yuck!
Well, that's all. 'Til next time, lots of drool and love.
