Leave a bone for Brita
Dogster stats for Brita
Austin Boxer Rescue
Britta is doing wonderfully!!! The girl who would jump right off when placed on our bed has now learned to accept our invitation to cuddle up there with us. She even spent one night spooning with her foster dad! After being with us just about 3 weeks, she met our good doggy pal we doggy-sit for at times. We gave Britta very slow introductions, and she did earn herself a time out for not talking nice to the the new girl. We went for a walk to bond, and it went perfectly. Britta is just insecure at times and will bark at other dogs (she is worried about her status). She'll do great with more exposure to meeting new dogs, and understanding her human has control of everything and will keep her safe and secure in her pack. She responds well to touch to get her attention and to correct her.
She loves playing with her furry foster brothers and is a very vocal player. She loves to growl at them and will roll over and show her belly to play upside down.
She loves to run! I've taken her on my bike to run at full speed. She'll go about a mile at a really fast pace! I have yet to take her running with me, but I bet she'd do well and could go much further than a mile at her human's pace. She is so versatile. Some days we don't make it out for a walk, and she's happy with that too!
When Britta first came to us, she was so out of sorts. We had a hard time getting her to eat and drink properly. She ended up with a UTI that was quickly resolved once she started antibiotics. She gained her appetite back with the building of trust and some love. This girl would eat lots if I let her! I manage her food quite well, as she's looking much more svelte than when she arrived (a tad too chubby for my liking, so I knew she had a good appetite in there somewhere!!!) Britta is quite petite in stature. Any weight gain above her current weight will put unnecessary load on her body. At the very least, that load will lead to heart & joint issues and cut her life expectancy down tremendously.
Signing with Britta is growing more everyday! Right now she knows: sit, sit/wait, okay, come, shh, potty, all done, off, good, and I touch her side to get her attention on me. She responds very well to touch. We work on bed, sleep, down, and walks around big trucks and new dogs. When exercised well, she is so much better about not barking at trucks or new dogs in close proximity. On a walk she doesn't bark at dogs across the street. She would only bark if they came "close" to her space.
We are so happy to have gotten to see Britta flourish. She is so sweet, sensitive and loyal. She loves her people, and her pack mates. She adores the children, and they adore her. She is so gentle, loving and tolerant. She is often found following the girls in the morning for their routine to ready themselves for school and for their routine at bed.
Although Britta is fostered in San Antonio, she often makes appearances at the Austin adoption days too.
Meet Britta! Britta is a 2-3 year old white female with black spots on her ears. She was rescued from the valley and is deaf.
Britta has been spayed and is in great health. She likes other dogs, and is fantastic with older children. Britta seems a bit too interested in cats to be placed in a home with one.
Britta is very well-behaved and has taken well to her crate. She is still working on not having accidents in the house, but walks well on a leash. Because Britta is deaf and can't hear you coming, she is a bit skittish toward quick movements, but she is very sweet and loving and adores receiving attention. She enjoys playing with other dogs.
Britta would love to have a forever home with another dog! Please ask to meet her today!
Meet Britta! Britta is a lovely 3-4 year old white Boxer with a very soft coat! She is deaf, but that doesn’t slow her down a bit. She is heartworm negative and is healthy and ready for her forever home!
Britta currently lives in a home with two older male canine companions and two young female humans companions, as well as a foster mom and dad. She gets along well with her canine companions, but it took her a few days to feel safe with them, so slow intros are a must for this lovely lady. Now that she is comfortable, she enjoys playtime with them immensely and even initiates play! In fact, she would much rather play with other dogs or her human foster sisters than toys.
She loves the attention she gets from her skin foster sisters, and is great with children. However, because she is deaf, she is recommended for elementary-aged children and older since they are old enough to understand they should not startle her. She also adores her foster mom and dad, but was a little slower to warm up to him.
Britta loves going for walks and has very nice leash manners. She follows corrections well, but one of her favorite activities is barking at trucks! Her foster mom is working to overcome this, as it is a bit distracting on a walk. Britta is housebroken, crate-trained, and is learning sign language. Her foster mom is teaching her new signs, but says she doesn’t have to use them to have good manners. She currently knows sit, potty, sit/stay to wait for dinner, off, and come.
Britta would like a home as an only dog or with a laid back canine companion, and she would adore having older children around to play with. She likes her space when it comes to the other dogs, and doesn’t hesitate to let them know (barking) if they are in her space and she’s finished playing. Britta could live in a house or an apartment as long as she got a walk each day.
It’s time for this lovely gal to find her forever home! Ask to meet her today.
