When I ran from hurricane Katrina...

Hurricane Katrina 2005

The day hurricane Katrina hit Lake Ponchitrain where I lived on a sugar cane farm, my family ran to their trucks, took off, and gravel flew everywhere. I ran and ran for miles down our dirt road but just couldn't catch up so I could jump in the back. They were out of sight by now and the wind started to howl, so did I.

The wind was really terrible and I wasn't sure how to get home and the water in the lake was blowing in my eyes, and now I couldn't see so good. I ran and ran to I dunno.

I saw a little house with the door open, ran in, and climbed into a chair to wait and rest, nobody was there to help me. All of a sudden the windows broke, the roof came down and pinned my front paw down and I had to pull my foot out but now it was really hard to see because my eye got hurt. My foot was not working but I made my way under the house and just waited. I was shaking because it was so scary, what is this!!? I asked myself.

Then water came where I was at and I swam until I was standing on top of the house.

Chapter 2

It had to be at least 2 days I was humkered down by the chimney of this old house I was standing on. I remember how cold and shivery I was and my bones ached from exposure. It was right after the sun came up I heard a sound I had heard before when I went fishing with my human from the farm. Yea, it's getting closer to me and it sounds so familiar. Is it my human coming for me at last? Had he found me out here somehow?

I can hear human voices now, and so I'll just creep out and take a look. "Here boy, here boy, here doggy are you ok?" "Poor thing, look at it!" "Its shivering and scared!" They came closer and closer to edge of the roof of the house where I was standing, looking at them looking at me.

In a few minutes, one of the 2 guys that were in the little boat jumped onto the rooftop and called me to him real calm, and nicely. I wasn't falling for it! I know who and what my human looks like and this guy is not him! And he keeps sayin "here boy, here boy," doesn't even sound ike Beju to me! hmmmm should I bite him when he gets closer? Probably try to anyway. Maybe it will scare him and he will go and leave alone. But maybe he has some food? or water?

(to be continued)
