Playing fetch and running
Skateboards, he does not like the sound of them!
Anything but lettuce and fruit...he is a good eater!
Our brothers back yard where he can just go go go!!
Huey sits, gives paw and lays down on command. He can also catch tennis balls in the air.
We adopted Huey when he was about 3 months old from North Shore Animal League. We picked him because he was the cutest puppy there and has been a blessing ever since!
We live in an urban neighborhood and try to get him to the dog park everyday. We had a baby a little over a year ago and he has been just wonderful with her! We were super nervous about the toys and babies coming over for playdates but Huey has been the perfect gentleman.
It breaks our heart but we are currently looking for a new home for Huey. My husband is going to be relocating over seas for work and will do quite a bit of traveling while we are there. This will be extremely difficult not only with a baby but with dog and language barriers.
Long story short, we are looking to find our beloved pet a home where he can receive as much love as he does with us and has the ability to get the exercise he needs. Huey is incredibly smart, well behaved, house trained and really low maintenance. It breaks my heart to even write all of this but it just would not be fair to our pup to drop him off in a shelter and he deserves the best possible environment.

Q & A:
In terms of his energy level, Huey usually receives 4-5 walks a day and about an hour in our dog run, we live in an apartment and both work full time. On the days where he doesn't have the dog walker he goes to doggy day care. Ideally, about an hour a day to run off excess energy would be great. Huey is very loyal and never leaves our side when off leash. He has never run away.
How much does he weigh?
About 35 lbs.
What is his reaction when other people or dogs come into his home?
He will jump and get excited but chills out a few seconds after he is acknowledged. He sits behind me anytime we order take out and it gets delivered or the UPS man comes and I need to sign for something. He won’t sneak out around me.
What is his reaction when meeting strangers and other dogs while on leash?
Well, that depends...When he is with my husband, he is great. When he is with me and I have the stroller, he tends to be a little more anxious on the leash and insists on walking ahead of us. We live in a building with a ton of dogs but there are 1 or 2 certain dogs for some reason he does not get along with. He will sometimes act a little aggressively toward them but after the initial barking, he plays : ) He is pretty social because of the dog run and day care.
Does he have a tendency to climb/jump fences?
Never has. He can certainly clear it but never has.
How does he react to being left alone in the house?
He has done as long as 8 hour days with a dog walker coming twice. We always leave the radio or TV on for him, food, water and snacks and he is fine. We did crate train him when he was a pup but is totally fine now and completely house broken.
Does he have any health/medical issues?
None whatsoever, he is up to date on all of his vaccinations.
How does he deal with vet and groomer visits?
He is the perfect gentleman except for teeth cleaning which I try to do myself. We rarely get his nails clipped because he walks on sidewalks and doggy day care in on concrete. They naturally file down. When we give him a tub ourselves he behaves.
How is his responsiveness when off leash?
He is awesome, does not run away, can walk in our neighborhood off leash. There were 2 instances when we were at my mother’s house where the next door neighbors son was riding bikes with a bunch of his friends and Huey wanted to herd them. He wouldn't listen when I called for him and was running with the kids. He was harmless but the kids were a bit scared I think. Since yelling his name didn't work, I started walking in the opposite direction and he immediately followed.
Are there any behavioral quirks that a potential adopter would need to know about?
He sleeps between my legs in our bed but has a dog bed and sleeps on it during the day. He may think a potential adopter's bed or couch was his. His one downfall is he does not like skateboards. He doesn't bite but barks up a storm when he hears one coming.
Has he spent any time around older children who run and jump around?
Yes, he has lived with a newborn and grown with her until the present time. They are best friends. With other children he has spent time with he either shy's away, wants to play with them or eats the food out of their hands.
