Arrival Story:
We thought Sophie needed a companion. In 2003 we rescued another female WFT, Lauren, from the NYC ASPCA. She was such a sweet dog and she had lived such a horrible life up to that point, but Sophie did not get along with her -- although Sophie has been socialized. Finally, after a bloody fight we had to take her back to ASPCA in NYC. We didn't want to trade one bad life for another for Lauren. We researched and decided that a male puppy would be accepted by Sophie easier. On Veterans day I happened to look in the paper and there was an ad "must move; need to find home for 10 week old male Yorkshire Terrier." The poor guy had gotten the puppy on a Saturday and found out at work three days later that he had to move cross country to a new job. He was responsible and knew that he couldn't properly care for a new puppy. He liked our message on his machine -- terrier exprience -- and we got our little Dusty. He is delight and joy and he and Sophie LOVE each other. They make great play pals. [P.S. We were still very upset at having to give back Lauren to the ASPCA; which wouldn't tell us anything about what happened to her. I kept checking their web site for updates -- she was one of 49 WFT's that had been rescued from a horrible breeder in the Bronx and Animal Planet had done a program on them. To our absolute delight Lauren was featured on the cover of a recent ASPCA magazine updating the rescued dogs. She was adopted and is happy...and so are we for her.]

Bio:
It took us a while to settle on Dusty as his name. He came with the name Ben -- but I didn't like that too much. Then we tried Bogie but just couldn't seem to remember it. Then my boss said, "you got one of those dust mop dogs!". That was it! He was Dusty from then on and he lives up to his name -- he is very fast to dust the floor for crumbs faster than a real Dust Buster!

One week later...I don't feel any smarter

Last week I went to get "tutored". I didn't feel so well at first. Getting smart really SMARTS. Something is different; I'm not quite sure what, but I do know that feel better now and that stupid collar is off my neck!! Yippee!! But best of all, Sophie is allowed to play with me again and that is all I care about. They kept her away from me all week. She was scared of my collar so I don't think she was in a hurry to see me until it was gone.

I don't care if I'm smart or not; I'm just glad to back with my buddy again.

What a day I had today!

I turned 6 months old on Friday and today I FINALLY got my page on Dogster. I'm very happy to be here. My folks had me for three whole months before they put together my page. I guess they were pretty busy with me and my live-in buddy, Sophie. But early this morning I was taken, as the old "Far Side" cartoon says: Off to see the vet to get "tutored". I wish I had understood that joke. Yikes! I had no idea! I'm only a baby. What were they thinking??? All over now. I'm home and doing o.k.

They had all day without me -- first time in three months -- they wanted this chance to build my page on Dogster. Well the page was done, I got entered (I got a few new play pals too - yippee!) and in the meantime I got TUTORED! I'm really smart now. How smart? I know that I don't want to leave my people anymore. No way; I'm stickin' right with 'em.

They say it was best for me. I won't get sick with some ucky sounding diseases and I'll have a sweeter tempermant, just like the Soph. She got her "lesson" when she was 6 months old too; that was five years ago. I'm sure she was getting a bit tired of my jumping and biting at her. After all, I'm only 5.7 lbs. and she is 18 -- but I beat up on her all the time.

I'll let you know how it goes after I feel better. Right now I'm just trying to figure out how to sleep with this @#$&@$!* collar on my neck. How's a guy to check things out?? Guess I'll just have to wait and see -- if there is anything to check out.
