Looking at Grunt today I was thinking about how things came about with him coming into our lives. We loss Turner suddenly to cancer. Karl and I said, no more. No more dogs, it hurts way too much.... Then one day I was crying, and Karl said, I know what you need. A dose of puppy breath. We went to a rescue in Cuba, NY and inhaled puppies for a day. It was fantastic. Life was just a little bit sweeter.
We started looking for another dog to fill the large hole that was there. We agreed that no matter how much it hurt to lose Turner we needed another dog. We've been together 20 years and all 20 years we've had 2-3 dogs. And not having one was too much, the house was too quiet.
We looked at several dogs, all different ages, all different breeds. None seemed right. We went to MD to pick up Blaze, the American Bulldog, he was too big and scared Darcy. He was wonderful, right dog, wrong timing. So we took Blaze back. Blaze was adopted immediately to a wonderful home.
So we continued to search. We found some pups at Joyful Rescue, where we went for puppy breath and went to check them out. We were interested in a couple, but were still unsure. Just didn't click.
Then Joyful Rescue had a fundraising event. It was pouring! There were so many people there, the community really loves this rescue. And what a bunch of wonderful people that volunteer for Ms. Joye and her husband. I walked to a pen with a lady sitting with some pups, the one pup we had been looking at was there and had grown since the last time we saw him. There were 3 other pups in the pen. One 1 came over. Wagging his tail, smiling in the pouring rain. His name was Marine. I had to find Karl to show him these pups. Marine walked right up to Karl and sat down. It was a match!
Later we were looking at some other pups and a volunteer, Lisa, asked us what we were looking for. I told her about losing Turner and how much energy he had. I told her we were looking for an "old soul" A dog that just understands. Sounded like a tall order.
We had to finish running new fencing before we could bring a pup home. Bring a pup home! Well we got the fencing done and made an appointment to see 3 pups. One of them being Marine. We walked in, 2 of the pups were there, Marine walked right up to Karl, waggin his tail, smiling. Walked over to me, smiling and wiggling! The other pup wasn't really interested and the 3rd pup was in the dog yard playing. As soon as Marine came up to us I looked at the girls and said forget finding the 3rd pup, we're taking Marine home with us and his name will be Grunt.
Grunt is so calm. We actually thought he was sick at first. He plays with Darcy then will sleep for an our or so. He's wonderful on lead and has learned how to use the doggie door, sit on command, was house broken in 5 days and will just lay in your arms upside down and chomp at you! He loves to meet people and other animals. He is really just a wonderful dog. So different from what we expected. We expected a whirlwind of energy, bustin through the house. Creating mayhem and chaos everywhere. What we wished for was a dog who would bring joy into our sad lives and Grunt has definately achieved that!

A perfect match.
Make no mistake, Turner worked hard to make sure that the right dog came into your lives. To help heal your aching hearts and to help Darcy.
Soul Mates for sure♥ God Bless you for giving Grunt the loving forever home he deserves and God Bless Grunt for choosing your family♥ It's kind of how my Momma got my Sisfur Monnie
