Arrival Story:
Lacey was a rescue, billed as an Australian Shepherd. It was pretty obvious she wasn't pure Aussie because of her coat and tail. A woman at the dog park said, "I'd bet the farm she's a Catahoula Leopard Dog". I said, "A WHAT?" Lacey was rescued from Tennessee. That is, her pregnant mom was rescued from a 'kill shelter'. Three of the nine pups were born blind. Lacey has one blue and one multi-colored eye. Her eyes are 'cracked', the pupil mixing with the iris. She is mostly white. She has a tail that is usually carried curved over her back like a question mark. She is an intense retriever and started swimming before she turned six months. This information inclines me to believe she is pure bred Catahoula -- the litter a blue merle x blue merle crossing (which is a no-no because the recessive genes increase the chance of deafness and blindness). If you have an opinion about whether Lacey is pure Catahoula or a mix, I'd love to hear it!
