Arrival Story:
I saw Deacon (then Scruffy) on Petfinder last September, a poor shaved, emaciated little dog covered in sores. I e-mailed the rescue to ask if they needed any help and they never replied. This June I was scanning Petfinder and saw this amazing dog in a tux and then realized that it was the same dog. I was so happy to know he had survived and thrived. He was in foster care, available and they said to fill out an application. The rest is history. He came home on July 23rd, 2011 and went straight to an agility trial with his pack in Vermont. He was great in the trailer and on the ride home. Now the fun begins as he melds into everyday life.

Bio:
Originally from Shreveport, LA, I moved to Texas for some evaluation and eventually came home on the P.E.T.S LLC transport. I came off the trailer with very little stress and was listed as "One Cool Dude" by the driver. I tested positive for heartworms and underwent treatment at my new home. After a month of crate rest (NOT) I have the green light to become a crazy, active puppy again. I love my brothers and my big sister is so cool! I look like her and have fun going all over the yard with her. She's my idol! Devin is my favorite toy. He squeaks when I squish him and then I jump away and he jumps back at me to play. We can go on for hours, driving our humans INSANE!!!! BOL!

What a Long Strange Trip It's Been

Today is my "faux" barkday

Mom was surprised when Dogster wished me Happy Barkday and then pressies showed up on my page. She thought it was a good opportunity to update my profile a bit. She changed my breeds to Schnauzer / Pit, making me a *Schit*, but it's truly what we think I am. If you watch a pitty in motion, I move the same way, my skull is too wide, my eyes are farther apart and I'm built like a mac truck. Soooo, it's not a bad thing AND she updated my age. The shelter couldn't give us a great age and since I had been in 3 to 5 shelters before I landed here, they all had different age guesses.

The best thing is that another year has come and gone and I'm still here. Mom noticed in the last few months that I pick up toys and play, I'm non-responsive when other dogs challenge me at home and I'm running great for dad in the ring. Yes, I mouth off to other dogs that make eye contact with me, but so do other dogs. I'm still under super watch and I always have my nose on, but it allows me to be a real dog out with everyone. It's all good! Mom is starting to trust me again and I sleep with her every night (after everyone is gone off to lala land, I sneak up and snuggle with her). Duncan pushes me around constantly, but I know he's just an old dog trying to push his authority and I'm really OK with that.

All in all a very good year and mom hugged me last night at midnight and told me HAPPY NEW YEAR because she knows it could have gone in a different direction over and over.

Peace out furiends,

Christmas with my pack...

Well dogs, I'm still here after really stirring up the pack this year. Mom and dad have done a lot to make sure that I'm getting the best life I can get. I'm crated, but not always and I get to go run with Dori and Devin in the back yard. Actually, as long as I have my nose on (they humans call it a Gentle Leader), I get to go play with the whole pack. I love tennis ball and playing and I'm trying really hard to be good. Mom misses the trust that she had with me, but I'm gaining a bit back every day. She knows I could snap and watches me closely, but she loves my big snuggly body and can't resist my charm. I posed nicely for this year's Christmas card and sat right next to Duffy. I hope next year brings more good things and I keep getting better. I'm on Prozac now and I think that is helping me deal with life. So far, so good.

Have a happy holiday. I know I will!

Still here....

It's been a really hard summer on the pack. Dad lost his mom, Duffy tore his cruciate and required surgery, Duncan tore his crutiate surgery and was sidelined and I tore open Duffy in a yard fight... Oh, and did I mention that a wiring short resulted in the Mutt Hut almost burning to the ground??? In all this chaos, one thing remained... ME! Dad took a lot of time to make sure I was safe in a crate and that I wouldn't attack any other dog in the house. I'm happy now and I don't have to deal with pack dynamics. I still ride in the back seat of the truck all buckled in with my siblings, but I'm watched constantly. It's a different world here. Mom and Dad know that they will never find a new home for me because of my seizures, my sporadic potty habits and my reactivity, but they are making it work. I just wanted to let you know that I'm doing fine and I get loads of out time in the yard with Dori and Devin, who I don't seem to mind at all. They are my buds and we spend many good hours in the happy sunshine during the day. After the initial shock of me tearing open Duffy's chest, mom and dad were talking about having me PTS and I'm sure glad they decided against it. For now this is working and I'm trying very hard to be good. I'm going to a behaviorist at Tuft's in October and will probably get some good calming drugs and I'm a whiz on the agility course with dad. Keep me in your thoughts and I'm hoping that this will all work out in my favor.
