Arrival Story:
After doing a long search and asking a ton of questions for a great breader I found the Vom Chugach Kennel. Once I decided on the breeder and contacted them, I was told that she would pick out the pup for me based on my needs and life style. I was a bit uneasy about this but I did my research and trusted her. After the pups were born I visited them several times over 8 weeks. I was able to get a feel for each pup and was interested in Blue, Yellow, and Red Girls. On the 7th week the breeder told me that ALL the pups would be great for me and I could pick any one I wanted. I was excited about which one of those three pups I liked would I pick! I asked her which pup she thought was the best and was told that she really liked Orange Girl. That was the one pup that I did not have mush interest in. But when I went out to check out the pups I totaly fell head over heals for Orange Girl. It could have been from the big puppy kiss she gave me. I am a sucker for a good kiss. But I felt something special about this little dog. The breeder was so right. Ever since I got this little girl I have grown to love her more each day then the day before, BUT not near as much as I will love her tomorrow. She is such a wonderful girl. We have not spent more then 30 minutes apart since we adopted each other. She goes EVERYWHERE with me. She does not know it yet but she is being trained to be my diabetic alert dog. And to help pay for treats and toys I am going to train her to be a Bed Bug Dectection dog also. Right now she is checking out the Schutzhund Club and doing some fun stuff with them. Did I say that I LOVE this dog? Chevas ROCKS!!!

It has been a while since we updated here. Chevas is turning 10 months old next week. She is getting so smart. We have not had much time due to work to go to Schutzhund training but we have been working on drive and focus a lot. She still loses her mind from time to time and wants to not "hear" what I say but more times then not she is right on top of her game. She really enjoys her nose work classes and is amazing at it. The hotels I work for are also getting FREE bedbug detection done by her. It is so fun to watch her work the room looking for those dang pests.
We are in Fairbanks this week and she is having a great time running in wide open fields and smelling the cool crisp air. She is turning into a heck of a hotel dog.
We had a scare last week. We were outside the training center when I saw a stray dog running around at the end of the parking lot. I thought I should put Chevas in my car just incase the other dog had issues. BOY DID IT HAVE ISSUES. I had just got the door open when the dog came around my car and tried to attack me and Chevas. I had about 1/2 seconds to pick her up and get her in the car. The other dog tried to bite me several times then when to attacking my car. My paint was in really bad shape after that. The dog kept going from attacking my car to attacking me and the trainer. I thought I was going to have to put this dog down or one of us was going to get mauled. Finaly the ownner showed up. She had no control of the dog and it kept trying to attack us. We could not move without it circling around for a bite. The owner was finaly able to get the dog and she give it up to animal control. I wish the best for the dog but at the same time I am so happy no one or Chevas got hurt. Well accept for my car, but paint can be fixed.

WOW Chevas just turned 3 months old last Sunday. What an AWESOME little girl she is.
We went back to the park where the slide was and if she enjoyed it last time she went NUTS over it this time. Off the leash she would run up the steps slide down and take a flying leap into the air. (not too high since I do not want her to hurt her puppy joints) But man does she love it.
We also went back to the lake this week. We just got off work (she goes to work with me every day) so I was still in my shirt and tie. She did the same thing she always did and attacked the water would go in chest deep to get sticks and balls but no deeper. So I took my shoes off and walked out knee deep. Chevas came charging out after me. The look on her face when she could not touch the ground was priceless, but it did not slow her down she wanted dad to get back to the shore. She circled around me and started hearding my back to the shore and would not stop until I was back on the shore. She would then chew me out in her best puppy bark and dared me to go back out there. So I did again and again. I was soaked to the bone. I guess we both were but it was so much fun.
Anyway we have also gone out tracking every day this week and Chevas is doing great. Yesterday I set a 24 yard trail and today I set a 38 yard trail and she just nailed it. If she put half a paw outside the trail I did not see it. This is so going to help her with the Diabetic Alert trainging. I think if a few weeks we will start her on senting for that.

Week 11

Chevas has been working hard the last few weeks. She has been walking more on being social and has been running the trails out in Kincaid Park getting use to the bikers and joggers. Fast moving bikers still gets her going but she is starting to ignor them. She also gets excited with skate boarders. I asked a few kids to stop for a minute so she could check out the boards and she even tried to ride one for a few seconds.
She also found out the lakes and streams are really fun. She does not swim yet but she loves to attack the water.
Yesterday she went walking around the parking lot of a shopping mall to get use to the carts and cars going by. The cars do nothing for her but the carts and blowing trash really gets her excited. We are working on this. For fun she went to a park and found out that she loved the play ground equipment. She would go up and down the slide over and over again. I had to drag her away or she would have been there all night.
We just started her sent work training this week. I am setting a sent trail in the grass and she is searching for her morning meal in the grass. It seems to be a lot of fun for her. After a few weeks of this we will start her biabetic alert sent training and I will update how that goes. Once she has tracking and her alert training down we will start working on bed bug detection. I am having a hard time buying bed bugs but I'll get them. (Why do I want to buy bed bugs? I must be nuts!)
Oh, Chevas is also in love with the GM's at the hotels and the whole Sales Office. We went to the garage sale at the Fairfield Hotel and Chevas get stolen out of my car by part of the sales team and her daughter. I found Chevas playing soccer with them and she did not care where I was she was just having fun. (What kind of a guard dog is she?)
