Dexter, rambunctious as he is, knows his boundaries. I love Pit Bulls, but those dogs have fighting in their blood. It is very hard to find a Pit that has no aggressiveness in it's body. Unfortunately Dexter ran into one that has extremely aggressive tendencies.

It was a warm afternoon, strolling around the park, looking for a nice stick to throw for Dexter. There were a few dogs playing together in the distance and thought it would be nice to have Dexter play that day. We casually took our time walking over to the woman with two dogs. I recognized her Rhodesian Ridgeback, but not the other dog. I was cautious because I could tell the other dog was a Pit Bull. I politely said "Excuse me, is it alright if Dexter plays with Molly and her friend?" The woman said "That’s quite alright, but let me get the other guy on a leash, he is Unpredictable." So one of the woman’s sons grabbed the Pits collar and held onto him. I thought it was alright at this time to let Dexter go....Boy was I wrong. What I did not realize was they were holding him back so he could go and fetch his bone. At this point I had already let Dexter go. The pit was after his ball, as soon as he saw Dexter running, he did a U-turn and headed straight towards Dexter. I froze in horror...I couldn't talk, move, or breath. All I could think was Dexter please run and don't stop, run right to me. It was to late.

The pit bull has got Dexter by the neck. Yelping...was all I could hear. I couldn't move. I was shaking, my eyes were locked on to the horrible image of my dogs neck in another dogs mouth. All of the sudden the owner jumped onto the pit, grabbing the pits jaw with all of his might. He freed Dexter's neck and I immediately ran to wards my dog. He was trembling, but to everyone's amazement, perfectly fine.

If it had not been for Dexter's spiked collar, he would have had puncture wounds on his neck. Instead one of the spiked studs was gone, the stud had blocked the dogs teeth from hurting my beloved Dexter.

Dexter is great now, not afraid of anything. Which is a surprise to me, I would be scared of every big dog if one had attacked me.

This pit was once again in our field and this time fought with a Doberman. The Doberman had got a huge gash in her shoulder. It is time to call Animal Control.
