Arrival Story:
In January of 2007 that I received a call from Leda Kim wondering if we were still interested in fostering a Bouvier through the ABRL. I can’t believe that we’ve only had Cody for 2 ½ years because I feel like I’ve loved him my whole life. He was terribly shy when we picked him up on Long Island, and only weighed 68 lbs back then. When we had him groomed for the 1st time, you could see his hips & count his ribs. We’ll never know why his previous owners turned him into the shelter, except we were told that “they didn’t want dogs anymore.” Since then, “we’ve” been through many obedience classes including an Animal Assisted Therapy Class. He has passed the first leg of the AHBA HCT Test, and also enjoys herding & tracking with our friends at BONE. In addition, we are a Registered Delta Society Pet Partner Team. And in his spare time, he administers a fundraising page for the ABRL, www.cafepress.com/bouvlove One of Cody’s most fabulous qualities is his ability to open people’s hearts to the unconditional love & affection of dogs. Time after time I have seen people who “are afraid of” or who “do not like” dogs warm up to him almost immediately. I’d like to believe that it’s his way of showing gratitude for the new life the ABRL has given him. We all know that you can’t contain the love these dogs have. For some of us they fill a space in our hearts & souls that we didn’t even realize was empty.
