Arrival Story:
I always had little dogs throughout my life. But in 2007, God called me to hike. I had wanted to have a dog as my hiking companion, but it was unreasonable to bring a small breed in to the places I like to hike most. Besides, since my small dog had such a "big" personality, I was little afraid I wouldn't be able to handle a larger dog of the same feisty temperament. During this time, Cesar Millan, the "Dog Whisperer", was becoming popular on TV. From Mr. Millan, I discovered ways to be an effective pack leader, regardless of breed. But by this time, my small Pomeranian/dachshund mix suffered from heart failure and passed away at the age of 11. Milo was my special little guy and will always have a place in my heart. I didn't think my heart could ever handle falling in love with another dog. But a few months later I saw an ad that CSRA Happytails Rescue was holding adoptions at a local hardware store. I went "just to see". And that’s where I met the dog I would soon name Gracie. (See adoption day photo) She was 20lbs underweight, and Happytails had just rescued her from "death row" from the local animal shelter the day before. In spite of her circumstances, from what I had learned from Mr. Millan, she appeared to be a well balanced dog. She was friendly and came to me to be petted when I called to her, but when I moved on, she calmly sat back down. She was neither over anxious or shy - she was perfect! But the real test - how would she be with her new sister (cat) and with my grandchildren? Well, she’s been poke, prodded and pulled on by grandchildren and cat alike, but without a whimper or a flinch. I don’t think its coincidence that I found the perfect dog at the perfect time it’s known as God’s timing. I because of this, I named her Gracie. 1. Grace - the freely given, unmerited favor and love of God. 2. Grace - elegance or beauty of form, manner, motion, or action

Hiking Pinnacle Mountain

Mommy and I went hiking on Pinnacle Mountain. I love exploring the different smells and seeing the different sights. I’m VERY good at spotting small animals in the forest. I’d like to chase after them but Mommy says I can’t because I might get lost.

After we get to the top of the mountain, I get my favorite snack – Pup-peroni! Yum! Mommy always brings me fresh water to drink, but my favorite way to cool down is a good dip in the mountain streams.

After our rest, we hike back down the mountain, meeting new doggies and their parents as we go. I can’t wait till the next hike!
