Arrival Story: He picked me. I had been considering getting a new dog after our 2 old dogs passed. Maggie and Sandy were 15 and 16 and big dogs...85 and 110 lbs. Good long lives for such big dogs. I was looking for the right dog after they died, and had decided to get a smaller dog. Was considering several breeds, but then I met Maxie and something in my heart melted and I knew he was the one.

Bio: I've always supported reputable breeding, and am well aware of the importance of it, but I guess no one is immune to falling in love with a sweet dog. He is from a backyard breeder, although they only had his parents, who lived in the home with them. Everybody healthy and happy, on good food, UTD on shots. Even though I had been considering getting a dog- he was an impulse, and once I held him, there was no turning back. At the time, I justified it by saying these people are kind to their animals. BUT- after adopting him I became aware of all the rescue groups that had cropped up in the last years. Although Maxie is a great dog and I wouldn't trade him for the world, after I thought about it, I felt guilty about supporting a practice I didn't really agree with. Reputable breeding - yes, always supported that- but not just creating puppies because it's fun and you can sell them for a couple hundred bucks. So I started volunteering for a rescue, then fostering, and adopted Lily too. So.... despite his history- a small part of the dog world has benefited from my little Maxie, as he was the inspiration.
