Quick Bio:

Likes:
Ear scratches & belly rubs are nice, but I love being bossy. I like the couch and beds way too much!

Pet-Peeves:
Not getting my own way and Einstein. That puppy came almost as small as me, but he's getting bigger and I'm NOT! Grrr! Now Ice!! I'm NOT falling for this little dog stuff again!

Favorite Toy:
Anything I get my paws on is MINE! MINE! MINE! Okay until Mom makes me give them back.

Favorite Food:
Chocolate! No ifs, ands or buts! Now the family keeps it safely out of reach. I'm a lucky boy that they put it away cuz Mom says it's really bad for me, but I LOVE it. I like carrots and liver, Mom says that's good for me.

Favorite Walk:
Ack! Around the block is all I can take, I'm scared of the streets. Once I went to the country with Keyto & Eintiny..it was sooo big out there!

Best Tricks:
Sitting up on hind legs looking like I'm starved..I can hold that position forever!

Arrival Story:
Well, my Mom's friend met Hooch (then named Brownie) in an alley. Sounds odd, I know. The owner really didn't want me back, so an alley meeting was safe for him. My Mom's friend had me for 5 days and then I bit her husband pretty bad. I was very scared of men. She couldn't handle me, so my Mom saved me from going to the Humane Society. Her friend didn't want to take me there but she didn't know what else to do, so Mom said I'll take him. She taught me some manners, made me show respect to the rest of the family and let Keyto teach me I was NOT the boss of THIS house. Then she found me a potential new owner but Jacob, then 12, told the man to never call back because I was their dog and I was staying here. I was so happy! They bought me a cute Christmas collar and a stocking and I'm staying forever! I get grouchy sometimes when I can't have my own way but I don't bite anymore, I just give a BIG doggy growl. They don't scare when I growl because they know I love them. I never mean the growls anyways, I guess some old bad habits take longer to break. My Mom watches me around new people, but I like the kid's friends. I just don't like not being able to sleep with Jessi when she has sleep-overs. She says I'm a bed-hog or something.

Bio:
Hooch got his name from the movie Turner and Hooch because of his demeanor. The Hooch in the movie "seemed" like a big scary beast, but inside was the most lovable kind dog who gave his life for his new owner. Our little lion-hearted doxie came across the same way, all teeth and beast but is a real sweetheart with a personality like NO other. He's a charmer with great looks and he knows how to use this to his advantage. We love you Hooch, you and all your "talking"..Doxies love to bark. Know why? Because they can!

Well he finally got me for the first time...well I've been scratched, but this was a bite. He HATES/FEARS having his nails clipped. The first time I cut them I thought he had died. Seriously, he was limp and I thought he'd over-amped and died on me. I don't know how he could have been so traumatized by nail clippers, but wow.
He's been sooooooooooo much better now..no muzzle, no wrapping him
(dachsunds ARE SOLID MUSCLE!) and as long as I'm assertive and just do his nails with NO anger in my voice or lack of patience, he's been a lot better.
Not this time..he grabbed, pierced and shook my finger. Of course he was sorry, of course he felt bad..just made me think about what if..what if I couldn't look after him. Seriously only another dog rescue could keep him if they could handle him.
He'll never be adopted out. As long as he copes here and doesn't hurt the kids...`sigh`
He's such a nervous lil guy. Yet he play fights the pyrs and FINALLY trusts Ice after 2 years of seeing she didn't hurt him when he was a jerk.
Whoever had this guy did a lot of damage to him. He's taken a LOT of work and isn't a breed I'd recommend to inexperienced dog owners. In fact small dogs are often the culprits of bad behaviour and not blamed for it. I don't think some people think of them as real dogs, which of course they ARE! Hooch is a predator, he hunts, he attacks things he perceives as threats, he has a yard and house he watches over just like the 'big' guys.
Ahh the bark of a doxie..LOUD!
