Arrival Story:
Amore means "love" in Italian. He is my only non-rescue, but does have special needs. Back when I had only one other dog (gasp) in 2004, I was put on a waiting list for a Bolo pup, and received him in Dec of 2005, shortly after I'd adopted two retired breeder dogs, Elena and Rina. He arrived beside a donated kidney en route to its recipient, and seems to have an interest in healthcare...he loves to "fix" other dogs' minor health issues (ear cleaning, eye cleaning, licking a bleeding nail, etc.) He was a handful as a puppy, and there were times I thought I would lose my mind for sure. My grandmother had become ill and I was her caregiver, and we were in the midst of a two year move (was supposed to take two-three months!) so he did have an unusual upbringing. He lived in the hospital with us frequently, and developed an affinity for the fragrance of hand sanitizer. He enjoyed wheelchair rides, and playing with huge balls in the therapy gym. He grew up to be a therapy dog. He had severe colitis as a pup due to food allergies, which we FINALLY got under control after trying dozens of different foods. He has sensitive skin and a minor eye problem, but is well otherwise. He loves to play and have me sing "That's Amore" to him.
