Arrival Story: My best friend had recently lost her dog and she was starting to toy with the idea of adopting another one so one day we went to a shelter close to my house. My friend didn't meet anyone there she was to interested in but I did. I saw a big Bernese Mountain Dog mix puppy and a male Australian Cattle Dog. So I went home and talked it over with my family and a few days later we went to go meet them again and see if we wanted to bring one home but when we got there someone else was adopting BOTH of them lol. So a little dishearten, I was walking through the rows of kennels when I came to the "red tagged" dogs. The ones who only have a few days or hours to be adopted before they were going to be euthanized. It was in this row I saw a small black and white dog chewing on the kennel fencing. Her teeth where cracked and chipped but she was so happy that someone was showing her some attention. So I took her home.
Bio: We named Shenzi after a Hyena in Lion King because we thought she resembled a Spotted Hyena.
Shenzi loves to chew. The shelter said she originally came in as a stray but was then adopted out once and returned after she chewed through their drywall in the garage (the shelter also said they kept her locked there most of the day so I guess you couldn't blame her). Within the first week of having her she chewed up 4 pairs of shoes and ripped out the whole back of one of our couches but with some crate training and some vigorous exercise, her chewing has been tamed down.
We're not sure how old she is. The shelter had her listed as 8 months but her teeth say she's probably well past 3 or 4 years.
Shenzi loves everyone. Big, small, young, old, just everyone. The people who passed up on her sure missed out on a good thing.
