Arrival Story:
A local poodle rescue group called and asked would we like to adopted a female poodle as a playmate for Cole. We told them we would and the next day she was at home with her new family. After the awful life Coco had had before they knew that now she would be a pampered pooch. She came to live with us during Thanksgiving 2004.

Coco had been very badly mistreated by her former owners. They had tried dying her hair sort of a red-brown color, her nails are all split and cracked and her pads are all damaged. Her ears were full of sores where ticks had fed on her but what made us the maddest was finding out that the previous owners had fed her road kill and that is why all her front teeth are broken and chipped off to almost nothing. Well that horrible life is over for her now and she is queen of this household. She has regular groomings and visits to the vet plus a family that absolutely adores her. Coco has hip dysplasia and from time to time can't use her back legs to walk on so she has to struggle around the house using only her front legs. It is so heartwrenching to watch this poor baby suffer. Her vet doesn't want to do hip surgery at this time because she was in such poor health when she came to live here. We now have her on a nutritious eating plan and she is slowly, but surely, regaining strength and health. It is so amazing to watch as she changes day by day. She is such a sweet little thing. We're so thankful to have her.

It's been a while since I have been able to write in my diary. Mommy has been busy nuring my ailing human grandmother and great-grandmother. They are doing better now so Mommy has time to type diary entries for me.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for the wonderful, encouraging emails. My hips are getting stronger and better every day. Mommy has been watching my diet and giving me pressure point therapy and doggie massages and now I can walk very well. In fact, I can now stand on my hind legs and I have not been able to do that since I was just a wee little pup. Daddy takes me swimming and on boat rides most every weekend so I can exercise without a lot of pain. I love swimming with my family and Daddy is always by my side in case I poop out and can't make it back to the boat. The first time I stood on my hind legs (without help), Mommy and Daddy cried because they were so happy. My brother, Cole was so happy he kept giving me kisses. I can now out-play and out-run Cole and we love wrestling every night while the news is on. I'm so much happier and healthier now. Thanks again !

Note from Coco's Mommy: The vet has now ruled out any type hip surgery for Coco because she no longer needs it. She is a bright, healthy, happy, silly little girl and we are so very blessed to have her in our home. Coco is training to be a therapy dog and is taking right to the idea of all that love and attention. She will be visiting my mother and all the other nursing home residents once a month and I know she is going to be great at loving all those elderly people.
Thank you all for the encouraging emails, Dogsters are the greatest !!!!

Hey Ya'll
Our house is buzzing with the small peeps of newly hatched little finches. We have 5 newborns. I had never seen a new born bird before, but Daddy picked me up and let me peek in the nest. They are so ugly and look like they have Albert Einstien hairdos, but Mommy says they will be beautiful once they're out of that frizzy hair stage. Boy, I sure hope she's right otherwise we're going to be stuck with some mighty ugly birds.

My brother and I have been outside playing all morning. Well I've mostly been laying in the warm sun, it feels so great. I like to watch my crazy brother chase the cats and dig at some hole under Mommy's azelias. Mommy finally caught him and told him he was being a bad boy, but he still does it when she's not looking. He's such a little sneek and makes us all laugh at the crazy things he does everyday.

I'm going back to my post looking out the front door. Our silly neighbor is out working in the yard today so I get to watch him rake and sneeze while he plants more flowers.

Have a woofunderful day. Luv ya'll, Coco

Good Monday to Ya'll

How is everyone ? I am feeling much better today and my hip is starting to feel so much better than it was last week. I made it up our back steps without Mommy's help today and she was so proud of me. Daddy was so proud of me I got a special treat for being such a strong, brave little girl.

My brother and I haven't been doing much playing today. We're tired from all the activity we had this weekend. Mommy and Daddy wore us out playing outside and running here and there. Today we're just laying at the front door enjoying the sunshine. Mommy has all the windows open in the house so theres a nice, cool breeze coming in and I can hear all the birdies sining. It is so beautiful here today and I'm just thankful that I have my Mommy and Daddy. They don't make me stay outside all the time and they feed me good food. This morning, I had eggs for breakfast. They were so good that I gobbled them right up. Mommy got a little irritated with me because I wouldn't take my medicine, but she finally loved on me and petted me until I agreed to cooperate with her. Sometimes I just like to be a little stinker, Mommy said I learned that from my brother. hehehehe.

Good day to ya'll and I hope something wonderful and spectular happens in your life today. Luv, Coco
