Arrival Story:
We had been a one dog family for almost 5 years, since the loss of our Lab mix in 2006. We still went to the local humane society and animal shelter, but always resisted adopting a second dog since our Aussie mix was doing so well as an only dog. We dropped by the animal shelter one Sunday after church and my husband (who was the one who was adamant about not getting another dog) saw this cute dog, about 6 months old. She looked like a miniature great dane. The attendant was behind us and offered to bring her into an interview room. We said okay and went to the room and sat down in chairs. He brought Sophie in and she looked at us, crawled up in my husband's lap and started licking his chin. That was all it took. She went home with us that afternoon!
