Arrival Story: As many of you know I had to say so long to Mountain on 4-01-2011. After a long and loving life with me Cancer forced me to set him free of pain and disability. While Mountain's time on Earth was winding down another story was developing and riding the wind from SW Missouri. Apollo was picked up as a stray in a very small SWMO town and locked in an Animal Control holding pen. There was a hole in the fencing and rather than repair it the AC officer just stuck a pitch fork in the hold as a plug.
With Apollo already riding a string of bad luck it struck him again as he got lanced by the tines of the fork. He was allowed to remain in the pen as the leg festered and became very infected and when he thought Apollo was going to die AC called a Rescue Angel to save Apollo and save him she did. She went to him and took him to a vet close by her place, the vet wasn't sure at first that the leg could even be saved but after weeks of treatment and the Angel's TLC Apollo did a turn around and his leg started to heal. Rescue Angel was not expecting all this additional expense so you may remember that I posted a plea for funds to help with the medical bills. People came through and the bills were within a couple of hundred dollars of being paid through your donations.
She was aware of Mountain's upcoming departure and laid down a couple of hints that Apollo should come to me but at the time all I could think about was my big boy Mountain. After the fact and when my head cleared some I got to thinking that according to the Master Plan maybe Apollo was meant to come to me. After mulling it over for a few more days I decided that I did in fact need a Saint Bernard in my life, not to ever replace Mountain but to fill a void that his departure left...and today that void is filled.
