On April 1st, 2011, Licorice went to cross Rainbow Bridge on her way to Heaven!

She lived a long and wonderful life of 15 years! She came to us from Furry Friends Rescue in Fremont, CA after being in the Silicon Valley, Ca shelter. WE loved her right away. She was a wonderful dog, but had to be the Queen...as we took in other dogs for her to have brothers and sisters, she ruled the household.

She got sick after getting a shot for Lyme Disease. Instead of protecting her, she got Lyme Disease from the shot. She lost her eyesight and began to go downhill..... Soon she didn't want to walk and we took her out in a doggie stroller to get some sunshine.

By April 1st, she became too weak to even want to go in the stroller and we knew it was time to say goodbye....

We love you, Licorice and will miss you forever!!!

Old Age

It is getting difficult for me to type in my diary now days as I have lost my vision. Mommy is helping me to type. I just know I am getting old. I'm not good at match but I think I am about 80 years in human numbers. I was doing real well, but a couple of months ago, I got kind of sick. I was then diagnosed with Cushings Disease. I, then lost my vision and got extremely hungry. All I want to do is eat. I've lost my girlie figure and actually, I really don't care...just feed me!
Mommy takes me out for a walk in a pink and black doggie stroller and we go to the park. She lets me run around for awhile and then it is back home, just in time for lunch and a nap.

Well, eating and sleeping is not that bad when you are my age. As long as I have mommy and daddy to be near me...
Love,
Licorice

All About How I Became the Queen of the House

I don't remember much about my life before I got lost on the streets. All I remember is the the animal control man picked me up and put me in the back of a truck. I was so cold and scared, but maybe it was better than being on the streets. I lost a lot of weight not eating much.. I am a very picky eater and only eat the really, really tasty stuff anyway...so being on the streets wasn't good. All there was around was grass and weeds and once in awhile I would find a worm... but I don't eat them... I just roll on them to get the smell on me... It is sort of like a deodorant or perfume. I love the smell of worms, especially dried ones. Anyway, I got distracted.... My ride in the truck was scary and when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it did. We arrived at this shelter and there were lots of dogs there and they were all barking. They had no idea I was a queen and were very rude. I stayed at the shelter for 30 days just in case my owners were looking for me...but they never came to get me. The people at the shelter named me "Inky" because my fur is very black and shiny... like a queen of course. Then one day, a lady came in from an animal rescue group called... uh, Furry Friends Rescue and she took me out of the shelter. I went to live in a foster home for awhile and my foster mommy didn't like the name Inky very much.... I mean like did they think I did... not a great name for royalty. So she changed my name to Licorice. At the same time... My Mom to be wanted a black dog and she wanted to call the dog Licorce....it's her favorite candy in the world. It was meant to be, don't you think? My foster mommy and my adoption mommy met and my new mommy fell in love with me.... She knew I was queen in the rough.. She took me home and gave me a good bath and I was gleaming clean. I now looked the part. She got me looking pretty good because I was a surprise gift for her granddaughter, Cristiana. Cristiana always wanted a dog, I mean a queen of her own and I was the one she dreamed about, I just know it.
Anyway... everyone fell in love with me and I made myself at home. I had the run of the house... special food made for the queen that I am. I'm glad they knew to recognize that fact.
Well, my paw is beginning to get typers cramp...I'm new on the computer. I'll leave things where they are and tell you more later....
