   Leave a bone for Jasper

Jaspberry, Jazzyboy, Just plain Jaz, Jasper Cera (after Michael Cera, long story)

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Sun Sign:
Quick Bio:
-pound dog-dog rescue

Gotcha Date:

April 23rd 2010

Performing tricks for people, belly rubs, herding cats and small dogs (people too, sometimes) playing with his brother, giving kisses, destroying all his toys, agility class

When other dogs step on him (always results in a "GRRRRRR"), when he's not the center of attention, that "balance a treat on your nose" trick, when other dogs bark at him and he can't go say hi

Favorite Toy:
ALL OF THEM! Anything available to put in his mouth and play keep away with his bro!

Favorite Food:
Fruit loops. First treats I used for training...maybe they have sentimental meaning?

Favorite Walk:
By the beach. Sand, sun, and water are Jasper's favorite.

Best Tricks:
Well, they're all good ;) but he's really good at put away laundry, cross your legs, jump through my arms, weave through my legs, play soccer, patty cake...the list goes on and on...

Arrival Story:
Although I was in search of a rare purebred dog, an e-mail came in on an online newsletter from rescue in desperate need at a very unexpected time. They were trying to save as many dogs as possible from death row at the local shelter, but didn't have the room or resources. Well, that was it. By the next day (the day seven-week-old Jasper's short life was set to end) I was driving to pick he and his brother up to *foster*. He was covered in burs, ticks the size of small grapes, fleas, twigs, and was so weak he almost fell over when the wind blew. He was emaciated, skinnier than any puppy should be. It took all of his might to lift his little head to give me a kiss. That pretty much sealed it. Jasper is now on his way to becoming a therapy dog, is training in agility, and knows about 50 tricks at ten months old. I'm very proud if him and am so glad he came into my life.

Yeah, you heard right...yours truly, a therapy dog. It's official!

I made my first visit today with some really nice senior people who shook my paw and gave me treats. I also got to perform for them, and they gave me a round of applause for doing what I do best....well gosh, I could get used to this.

I think I did pretty well at being therapeutic, too. A lot of the people talked to my human about the dogs they got to have in their lives. They stroked me, told me I was beautiful, told me I was sweet, and shook my paw. It felt good. I love making people happy. Ever since I was adopted, it's all I've ever done. I've stopped so many tears and gotten so many hugs. My human is really proud of me.

Out of all of the nice people there, I think I helped one the most. A lady came out with some pills to give one of the elderly ladies and the elderly lady took it. The medicine lady said,
"Wow, you didn't throw a fit today! What happened?"

The senior lady said "I didn't want to upset the beautiful dog. It's too bad he's not here everyday."

You say it's your birthday....

well it's my birthday too, yeah!

I AM ONE YEAR OLD (and so is my brother, Kuma!)!!!!!!!!!!!!

In this one year, I have

-been born in a field in the hot Texas April
-managed to survive for seven weeks without baking in the 90-100 degree weather without food or clean water
-just barely escaped euthanasia at the hand of animal control
-survived dehydration, anemia, and starvation
-went from FIVE POUNDS to about THIRTY POUNDS
-went from fluffy, to naked, to REALLY fluffy
-fought off so many worms in my system...my human said that because of the vet bills she feels like she was buying me again and again and again!
-learned that small dogs are for herding, cats are for herding, and sometimes children are for herding
-discovered that agility was fun but not really my thing because loud noises scare me
-learned awesome obedience, but still getting better and better!
-bonded REALLY close with my human...she is my other half and I get depressed without her (and the feeling is mutual for her)
-realized that I am the best dang looking dog out there. I strut, I smile, and look in the mirror any chance I get. I am so beautiful and my human agrees...too beautiful and special not to celebrate!

Today there will be cake, there will be presents, and there will be a party. Oh yeah.

You won't believe what I learned today!

Today, I drew my human a picture with a sheet of paper and markers. Yes! Me! A dog (well, a brilliant dog, but still, I'm a DOG, guys)!

We were training when my human asked me to hold a marker, and before I knew it i was drawing her pictures with it. I'm pretty good at this, eh? ;)
