Arrival Story: I was going through a bad time and I needed someone to get out of bed for every morning. Mom took me to the Maricopa County Pound and I looked and looked and finally we went into a dark long room with cages and I heard howling! I looked for the noise and found her huddled up against the back of the cage. My very own apartment sized wolf! We had to go back days later to pick her up and bring her home. I named her after an instrumental song I thought suited her. She had been found wandering in the desert. I had to treat her pads for 6 months after I got her. They were so badly cracked and bloody.
Bio: She had been very abused in her first 3-4 years of life. She would jump at any sound and if you moved to fast she would pee herself. For a long time she would submissive pee when anyone standing spoke to her. I had to train people to sit down before acknowledging her and petting her. I had her for 10 years and in later life you wouldn't believe it was the same dog. When we moved from Arizona to Scotland, she had to do 6 months of quarantine to make sure she was Rabies free. We visited her ever weekend and she came out much better than when she went in. I think she had finally learned to trust that we would always be there for her. When we moved into a big enough place we adopted Ookie to be Cora’s friend. She was 13is by then but I had always thought she would have liked a dog friend. They had a great 2 months together. When she died Ookie was devastated. She was my partner through heart-break, illness, death, love, marriage & birth. My darling girl who loved any stray cat I brought into our home (even our parrot) and she would see them as her babies. Dave & I called her Auntie Cora after Jason was born because she wanted to give me mothering tips. A truly lovely soul and my best friend still. She touched everyone's heart that knew her.
