to be right with you every move you make...shadows me constantly
wants food all the time and has put on considerable amount of weight.....have to watch that.....he is a chow hound
a tennis ball!!!! We just found this out...he is one heck of a ball player and that is awesome! He just got 15 new tennis balls over the weekend as a reward for being such a good boy!
Right now, Costco Salmon and sweet potatoes, no grain
down our country road...out to visit the chickens
Caught on to the dog door immediately, sits, shakes, stays, rolls over
I ran into a woman at our Vet's office that donates her time to the Iron county Animal Shelter...so in our conversation I asked how often she gets Golden Retrievers (my particular breed) and she said once in awhile. So today, Jan. 31, 2011, she called and said there was a Golden Retriever mix and did I want to come see "her"....we said "you bet"...so we ran to Cedar and went to the shelter. This sweet dog was absolutely quaking with fear. I am a notorious crier so while I blubbered away, my husband, who is very calm told the woman we would take her. Long story short....while I ran into the store for a new collar and bowl my husband did animal husbandry on the dog and called me on the cell and said...SHE is a HE!! So we have an adorable little boy who we found out was running the streets for over a month and is severly malnourished. He came home and all three goldens took a shine to him and he is snoozing away at my feet as I write this. Tell me it wasn't meant to be......Jasper has a new home and we are blessed with his arrival. What more could you ask for????!!? UPDATE: Oct 2011...for my birthday my husband got me a doggie DNA test kit so we could find out what Jasper really is (we were told Golden Ret. and border collie)...OH how wrong that was...he has German Shepherd/Bouvier Des Flandes on one side and rat terrier, gorden setter, Manchester terrier, JApanese Spitz and Leonberger (!?!?!?) on the other.....wow....can you say Heinz 57??? We adore him and don't care what he is but we were way out in left field on this one!!HA
He ran the streets for over a month....so know nothing. We just want to turn his life around. He went from having little food and scrounging around to Nutro Dog food...and he is one smart cookie. We are amazed already at the simple stuff he is catching onto. Think we made a wise choice in adopting this guy. Saddest part has been watching him sleep at the drop of a hat. It breaks my heart to watch him nod off at every opportunity...it is obvious he didn't get much sleep over the past few weeks. He can't keep his eyes open for long.
Update Thurs. Feb 3rd 2011....It is like Jasper has been a member of the family always...sits, shakes, lays down on command. Goes to the dog door and lets himself out. Gets in his doggie bed in the evening when I tell everyone it is nite nite time. So happy with him. We have had such good luck with rescues...we encourage everyone to consider a rescue before buying a dog. There are so many that need homes.
