Arrival Story: Sabrina still needed a pyr to pair with for guarding the herd; sargent was not a pyr. We found a farm where they bred their pyrs and got Sugar.

Bio: Sugar was a wonderful, cheerful pup. She was funny as well.
She never rode well in the pickup so we don't know how long she had her problem. Any ride in the pickup made her throw up. At 5 mo she appeared sick, between throwing up and loose stools. We found what we believed were round worms so we took her to the vet to be treated. En route to the vet, she threw up all over me and I had to stop at a truck stop to change clothes. It smelled like cow poop, so we thought she'd upset her stomach by eating cow pies.
We were extremely worried, but each day the vet called to say she was better and he was treating her for worms... but not the worms we thought she had. The 3rd or 4th morning, he found her dead. Upon exam after her death, he found she had intussusception, where the intestinal tract telescopes into itself and dissolves itself. As young as she was, this can be fatal.
We missed her terribly, and finally found Pepper to fill the hole in our hearts.

Sugar was learning to not fear the cattle... and so she'd go out into the field towards them.
One day a cow turned and raced to run Sugar down and trample her. Sabrina and Sargent were nearby... As I yelled "attack" they sped off and turned the cow and ran her off a good distance. Then I called "off" and they left the cow alone. She didn't want to come back after the pup after the two older dogs chased her. It was a GOOD lession! and a good day...
Sugar was very stoic... when suffering from her intussusception, she showed NO PAIN... she went happily out in the fields with daddy as if all were fine. She had the makings of an excellent guardian.

Sugar can't write her diary, as she's over the rainbow bridge, but I will srite our memories of her.
Funny things she did included catching her tail in the mouse trap (see memorial photo) and rolling in mud when wet. Also she loved the cats, AND their food!
She liked to sleep on the dog bed in the radio room. We were fighting mice and had mouse traps hidden in a corner where we thought she couldn't get to (behind something)... but she slipped her tail into that space and got captured at the tip of her tail. She just sat there and waited for me to come, photograph and finally remove it.
Sabrina and Sargent's favorite game was to get Sugar to walk and roll in the stream and then take her in play to a good dirt or mud area to roll her. I'll have to find a photo.
I had to fence the cat food as I kept catching her climbing up the cabinet to get to their dishes and eat their food. She'd squeeze into a 18" tall space that seemed too small for her to get to the food after I put plastic fencing around with a small opening to allow the cats to come up and eat.
She loved the kittens and they loved her, in spite of her eating their food.
She had the funniest sleeping poses. She'd lay on her back with parts of her body draped on the bottom shelf of the computer desk and it made us laugh to see all the wild and strange positions she got into when she slept.
