Bio: Xandria is a perfect companion dog, she goes everywhere with us and gets on brilliantly with all the people and dogs she meets. She easily puts shy dogs at ease and helps me work with reactive dogs. She's done several obedience grades and also has her Canine Good Citizen. She's super smart and a real quick learner, at the moment we are enjoying doing agility together and I'm looking forward to starting therapy work with her. I just graduated from Pro Pups 4 (advanced obedience) and to cap it off I came first in my class (it was a tie with Max the husky, but hey, it was still first! BOL!).
To graduate we had to do scentwork (I'm still not getting this, keep wanting to heel with my head up...so I came last in this...but hey, everyone said I was cute! :-).
After that we had to show we know what to do with the mat, go to the mat and lie down and hold the down, our mommies weren't allowed to give us any cues, they just put the mat down and waited to see what we did. I came first, I was the first dog to go out and lie down on my mat and I stayed there without moving. My mom nearly sabotaged me because she had left my mat outside and it got rained on and was still damp, so I didn't want to lie down on it. Think I deserved the extra treats just for that!
Then we had to do a timed course; agility, advanced off leash heeling, we showed off some of our tricks and freestyle moves and then we had to do a course of on leash heeling while our mommies were trying not to drop and egg in a spoon! My time was the best so I came first in this too!
My mommy told me I was a star and bought me a steak at Lucky Bean *smile* Don't mind all the hard work if I am well rewarded.
I've been working hard on my agility training. We had a private lesson with Alett Reed, who is one of the top agility folks here in SA. She was helping mommy with my weave pole training.
I did my first show at the end of June and mommy and I entered the dog jumping, I enjoyed doing the tunnels and jumps but I got nervous on the weaves and mommy decided we needed more help, as well as training at home, so we booked with Alett. My mommy was very happy because she says we have a clear plan to work with now to get my weaves sharp.
Last Tuesday was my last agility class at McKaynine, which was very sad for me, I will miss going there. Mommy said I was on top form in class and she was very pleased with me. My Aunty Shannon and Uncle Steve gave me lots of attention and said goodbye to me, I am going to miss them and Uncle Clive. Mommy says I will probably have a chance to see them when we come up to Joburg for shows.
I did an agility class with mommy at our place on Saturday, I did all the foundation weave training we've been working on perfectly and mommy was very proud and pleased with me.
Yesterday me and Arya went to visit Aunty Lelani and play with her dogs, that was also fun.
Its now only a month until we move to Natal, time is going very fast, I am curious to see what its like there, the dogs who have been say that its awesome.
Its been a freezing week here in Johannesburg, yesterday we actually had snow, can you believe it? So I saw snow for the first time in my life.
Anyway, we've spent the last few days, Arya, Fjordi and me, all trying to sit on my mom's lap at once to keep warm, its pretty much all we can do. At least we had a special dinner because of Freya's birthday. Mommy added Freya's favourite things to our food; tuna, cheese and liver cake, that was yummy! We also all got extra biscuits.
We were supposed to go the the koppies yesterday to walk but we couldn't go because of the weather. My agility class yesterday and my agility private lesson today were also cancelled. Its dangerous to run in this weather because you can easily slip and get injured. I will have to wait for next week...
I hope it gets warmer by the weekend otherwise obedience classes are going to be rough, I think I will let my mommy go out and teach her classes and I will stay in bed if its this cold.
I told my mommy that I want to become a therapy dog. She's been looking around but it doesn't look like there is anything organised for the Natal Midlands where we are moving in two months. She said to me I may need to be patient but she thinks we should start something there. That will be fun! I love people and it will be so nice to be able to help them. My mommy says I have the ideal temperament for therapy work :-).
