Arrival Story:
Nutmeg, my other dog, and I were walking through a local park one afternoon before a rain storm. As we came to the end of a trail I saw a dog crate with plastic bags around it. I approached cautiously, Nutmeg paid no interest in it. Attached to the front of the crate was a piece of paper with the word "HELLO" typed on the front. The letter explained how this family could no longer take care of their dog and would not take it to a shelter where her fate was uncertain. I looked in and saw the cute face of a dachshund. At that moment I knew my life was about to change. The second I opened the cage door and let her out I fell in love. She was such a sweet and happy little puppy. Nutmeg and her seemed to get along okay. Nutmeg has been an only child for 12 years so this would be a big change for her. I sat at a park bench close by for a few minutes thinking about what to do. The choice was obvious. Kona, whose name was Zoe at the time, and all her toys, food and bedding were loaded into the car. Home she came and from the moment she pranced in the door she knew she was home.
We changed her name to Kona to make her "our own." The middle name of Kazoo came later because of the noise she makes when she wants your attention, a toy, something she can't reach or a treat. It sounds just like a Kazoo.

I would not say that this is technically Kona Kazoo's adoption date, but the date she entered our lives...and took over. :-D
