Arrival Story:
My name is Diane and my husband is Michael and I just became homeowners over the summer. We have three Boxers. Our oldest is Haley, we rescued her in October of 2007 and her age was guessed around 2 years old. I was working as a vet tech at the local animal hospital when she came in with a severely fractured femur to her rear leg. The young women, her owner who brought her in was also injured, they were both beaten by the women boyfriend. Haley was protecting her owner when this guy kicked her. The vet on duty said it was the worst fracture she had ever seen and estimated the surgery, which was not a guarantee to work, at about $3,000. The women could not afford the surgery and had nowhere to go even if she did have the money so signed papers to have Haley euthanized. I called my husband and we adopted her that night. Three surgeries’ later the bone would not heal and the pins would not work. The bone was just too fragile to place anymore pins. The fourth and final surgery was a complete amputation to her rear left leg. She was running like a deer the very next day, that was the day we knew we needed a house with a big back yard. It was also the day we fell in love with Boxers. Haley was so timid and shy. She was especially timid around men. The vet recommended we get a puppy that would help her trust again. No problem with that!! Comet, our middle child, now 2 years old all white Boxer, our youngest, fawn with black mask, 12 week old only male Brody. Once we got settled into our first house (with a huge fenced in yard) we adopted him... No one gets us. Our families thinks we are nuts. I am 42 and Michael is 51. Our kids have left the nest and now we go and start a whole new family, but this family, we do not have to send to college. We have met other Boxer owners in the neighborhood and we love talking to them so that is how I got the idea to look on line. I hope I am approved because I truly am an honest to god all Boxer breed lover (all animal lover too.)
