Arrival Story:
When we were ready to love another dog after the death of our dear Wilma in May, I began checking out small dogs on Petfinder. The only one whose photo "spoke" to us was a scruffy looking little black dog in a foster home. When we arrived to visit, Annie hopped up on my lap, put her paws on my shoulders, looked right into my face, and nodded once. Then she hopped down and sat beside me on the bench. The deal was sealed! Although she had to stay at the foster home for another month, we had bonded and she had chosen her new home. Annie had a tough time before coming to us--she had been found in the Eugene area and went through their shelter system where she was spayed and chipped, but did not get any help with her terrible flea problem, nor the matted hair on her face that kept her mouth from opening enough to eat. She had no hair on her back end and legs from scratching and biting at the fleas--and we didn't know if it would ever grow back. She was scrawny and her hair was thin and lifeless.

Bio:
The good news is that Annie is recovering from the neglect she experienced--her hair is returning to the bare spots and looks sleek and shiny after a weekly shampoo and brushing. She is smart and funny--has learned that she won't get treats from the table, so now she hops up on a chair so she can be at eye-level while we eat. She's smart and funny, very playful and LOVES chew toys, ropes, and tennis balls. She holds toys between her front paws to play with them and uses her paws like hands to move toys around or to reach for our hands. When Annie rides in the car she likes to sit in her little box between the front seats and look out the front window. In trying to determine her breed, we considered Brussels Griffon, Tibetan Terrier and Affenpinscher--and now think she's most like the Tibetan Terrier, but with some other mystery ingredient. A real treasure!
