Hey all. Just a quick update. Yesterday I was able to travel to Peru Indiana with our unit commander and head trainer. There we were able to select six dogs for our next K9 school. All six are great and I would be willing to work with any of them, BUT of course, one stood out and I was able to select him. He cleared his physical this morning and it is official, he is in the unit and is my new partner. His name right now is Kenzo, but of course I am going to re-name him when the school starts. Any suggestions? My boys have selected a name, my wife has selected a name and I have one in mind. SO, we are all open to anything new and appropriate!

Hello all. I have nothing new to report on the search for Bane. I wish there was something to share, but there simply is not. In another area of interest, I wanted to let you know that Vadas is going to retire on October 1st. I plan to buy him a big ol' steak, cook it up extra rare for him and allow him to enjoy his retirement as the new Bullis family pet. I am traveling next week to select a new K9 partner and am very excited about doing so. My family and I very much appreciate the support you have shown us and I will continue to update you as things progress.

Hey folks, I am still monitoring this page, but with nothing new to add, I figured there was no point in "cluttering" things up. Thanks for keeping an eye out. We still appreciate all of you.

LANSING — The Michigan State Police doesn't want to lose another dog like Bane.

All 29 state police dogs now have a GPS collar, thanks to $5,000 in donations. A year ago, a German Shepherd named Bane disappeared while police were searching for a missing man in northern Michigan's Presque Isle County.

Bane was based at the Alpena post. His handlers believe he was chasing a deer.

State police dogs are used statewide to search for criminals and missing people. They also can search for explosives and drugs.

Sgt. David Yount says the GPS collars will be an efficient way to track a missing dog.

MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – All 29 Michigan State Police K9 units have been outfitted with new high-tech gear.

The dogs are now wearing Global Positioning System devices on their collars.

The move comes after troopers lost one of their K9s during a search in 2010.

The new GPS units will help them track dogs or their handlers if they are lost or injured.

State police used $5,000 in donations for the GPS units.

PRESQUE ISLE CO. (AP) -- The Michigan State Police are still asking for tips in the disappearance of a German Shepherd.

Bane is a police dog from the Alpena post. In November 2010, Bane was helping police search for a 70-year-old man when the dog suddenly began chasing a deer. Bane went missing near Allis Highway and Cold Creek Road.

The missing man's remains were discovered but Bane has not been found.

Bane's handler says he has a very mild temperament and can easily be approached without fear.

The Michigan State Police Troopers Association is offering a $4,000 reward and Crime Stoppers is pledging $1,000. If you've seen Bane, please contact the Michigan State Police at 989-734-2204 or 989-354-4101.
