Arrival Story:
Zero found us...I had gotten home early from work and as I was walking up the stairs to my front door, this little black dog came out of nowhere. I told her no and to go back down the stairs, which she did. When my two younger children arrived from school, the dog was still there. Of course they wanted to keep her, but I asked them to walk the dog through the nieghborhood to see if she belonged to someone. We already had a Chow named Laces at the time, not to mention a Siamese named Felix...I couldn't handle one more pet. They returned with the unclaimed dog...go figure. Since my middle son had hockey practice, I told him to tie the dog to a fence in hopes that someone would claim her. Unfortunately, when we returned later that evening, Zero was still there, but she had chewed through the rope. I felt so sorry for her, that we took her home for the night. I took her to the vet the following day, because it looked like she had mange around her right eye. While there, they began to check her belly with a black light to see if she had a tattoo or micro-chip. I asked why, because I had no idea that she was a "special" breed...go figure. Well, after spending a good $200, I convinced my family that we "could" handle one more pet and Zero has been with us ever since. Because she reminded my children of the dog from Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas", she was named "Zero". Both my beloved Laces and Felix have passed, but I still have my "Rat Dog"...
