Arrival Story:
After the loss of my long time outdoor dog last fall, I wasn't intending to extend our dog family. However, my sister was interested in getting a new dog since her dog was getting older. After some research, we decided to visit a high-kill animal shelter to rescue an animal. We walked through the facility looking at many pleading faces. Then we moved on to the outdoor section of the shelter. I immediately saw a scruffy (but beautiful) spitz. I literally gasped that I'd found "my dog." You see, I'd been secretly wanting a dog just like this one! Even though I wasn't the one looking for a pet, I asked if I could meet him. The helper kindly removed him from the cage. When I bent to greet him, he curled into my lap and gave me a happy lick on the chin. He was the sweetest dog I'd ever seen! No matter where I went in the area, he kept his eyes on me and I couldn't help but be drawn to him. Seeing the connection that had been made, my sister gave me the best birthday gift by insisting that I take him home...and paying for me to rescue him! I was so excited filling out the adoption papers. The few days that we had to wait for them to get their surgery (my sister adopted a small dog too) seemed so long... Words cannot describe how thankful I am that our paths crossed and my sister was so generous! I think we were meant to be together!!
