Arrival Story:
In late December 2003, my family and I were spending the Christmas holidays in Firenze, Italy. The caretakers of the house we were staying in owned a pair of Maremma Sheepdogs who'd just had puppies. On my very first day, the mother, a sweet-natured bitch named 'Sparkly', proudly showed me her litter of seven, week-old pups. Naturally, they took my heart. I didn't hav a dog, but desperately wanted one, and one of these puppies would be just the cute, white, fluffy animal to fill that space. I begged my parents for one, and the finally gave in, if reluctantly. In the litter, there were five males and two females and, because my mother hates male dogs (does 'territory-marking' ring a bell in anyones head?), we chose the smaller of the two females, who had a black freckle under her paw. My father told the caretakers that he wuld come to pick her up two months later, when she was weaned. I named her Magnolia, or Maggie for short.
