Likes: To chase everything and anything that will run (or be thrown) from her.
Pet-Peeves: Rain, people walking by throwable objects and not throwing them for her, and being left behind.
Favorite Toy: Tennis Balls, although any throwable object will suffice if there are no tennis balls around.
Favorite Food: Pretty much anything edible, although peanut butter, rabbit, chicken hearts, and her omega fatty acid pills (she seriously goes crazy over them) particularly stand out.
Favorite Walk: To "the sands" where she gets to take a break and play in the river.
Best Tricks: Getting people to pay attention to her, rolling over, acting shy, as well as all of the basic stuff. Currently we're working on closing doors!
Arrival Story: I suppose it all started when a girl at a party mentioned that she was looking to re-home her dog; I finally lived in a place that allowed dogs and I was reminded of how much I wanted a dog. After talking my boyfriend into the idea we made plans to adopt him. She ended up being able to keep her dog, which was great for her, but heart-breaking to us, so we started actively looking for a furry friend. We came across a cute puppy at an adoption event at PetSmart and went through a crazy month-long process of visits and paperwork to attempt to adopt the puppy, but were turned down because we weren't married. Turns out you can have kids without being married, but not a dog!
Extremely frustrated and heartbroken upon hearing the news, I left work early with plans to go to the local Animal Shelter to inquire about their adoption procedure. I had no plans to even look at the dogs until my boyfriend could come with me. Their process was much simpler. You pick a dog, you foster the dog for a week to ensure everyone gets along, you pay the $, you get the dog. The woman working the counter insisted that I go take a look at the dogs, who were all playing outside. A look surly wouldn't hurt....
Upon going outside a certain chocolate colored dog came up to check me out, and, well, we've been inseparable ever since. My boyfriend was rather upset at first, but I assured him that he still had final say; we could take her back the very next morning if he wanted....
Of course he fell for her, and we've been a happy little family ever since!
Bio: I've since found out that Zooey's parents are "Zoey" and "Scout", two labradoodles who also live in town, and I'm at least her THIRD home!
