My daughter and I have discussed frequently the enormous psychological comfort that out precious pets have brought to our lives over the years. Living on a small ranch in the Black Hills of SD during her childhood, we had an entertaining menagerie comprised of horses, dogs, cats, turkey ... and wild things of every variety. All had special relationships with us as well as with each other.
Time passes, Stacia grew up ... we sold the ranch and found wonderful homes for our horse chldren, our most dear rotties, Demi and Kirin, our cats, Ivan the Terrible and Elsa, passed and are awaiting us on the other side.
Then enters Hank, my daughter's most precious black lab. A true joy from the time he joined and became the center of our family. Calm and thoughtful, he is Stacia's constant companion and my "granddog".
I live in Denver and my daughter in Bozeman, MT. During my visits, every single morning, he leaves Stacia's room to come to mine. He crawls up on my bed, lays his head next to mine, and as I waken I see his soft brown eyes and with a small "Hank vocal yawn" he says. "I love you grandma, I am so glad you are here!" Their no words to describe the warmth that fills my heart.
On our hikes and during our drives around town, he sits right next to me, as close as his body can get. His unconditional love flows through ever cell of my of my body and is the absolute most wonderful therapy for mind and spirit one could imagine!
Each trip back to Denver, I full and overflowing. The love of my daughter and the love of my granddog "Hank" ... truly makes me whole.
I wish this for everyone ...
