We had put an application in with an Australian Shepherd rescue, knowing mostly that we wanted a herding breed and liking the rescue's philosophy that a dog doesn't need to be a pure-bred to be worthy of rescue. When we were approved and put into contact with their Ohio branch, we talked with Hoth's foster mom (who had 8 adoptable dogs at the time), and she told us she had the perfect dog for us. We drove down from Columbus to meet him and took him home that day!
Hoth came to the rescue with his mate and his daughter, both of whom have also been adopted (and he has been neutered!). They were neglected outdoor dogs until they were surrendered by their owner to a high-kill shelter in Indiana. The Aussie rescue knew they didn't really have any Aussie in them, but they were too cute to leave in that horrible place!
