Never say that things don’t happen for a reason because I just know there’s a God looking out for this girl from the Mississippi 8!
My story starts when my people lost another Irish girl … and that loss left such a huge hole in their hearts that they weren’t sure they would ever be ready to bring another Irish girl in their life. That sad happening was the end of 2009 … and the Mississippi 8 were still living in their horrible existence in Mississippi, yet to be rescued.
March Madness – or the rescue of the Mississippi 8 – happened in March of 2010. Irish Setter rescue got us all … finally! We were all flea and tick infested, all of us had heartworms, and the list of medical problems went on and on. We went to the hospital and we went to foster homes and we all started on trying to get ready to be adopted. We got spayed. We got neutered. We got our teeth cleaned. We got regular food and water. We learned to go outside to use the bathroom.
So many things to learn …
While I was going through all of this at my foster home with Miss Carolyn, my people were grieving for their beloved Irish girl … it was a long process. But that God looking out for this little Irish girl had a plan. And it was a pretty good plan.
It just took a long time.
First, I had to be heartworm free … after all the other stuff they did to me. And I had to learn to live in a house with people. You know, most of us in the 8 were afraid of people. Some of us still are … but that’s not my story.
My new people … well, their hearts were finally healing. Mom knew about us because she had sent Miss Bonnie money to help with our medical expenses. Finally, that God looking out for me sent her a healthy nudge … and she started talking about ME! Except it wasn’t me right then … it was an obscure dog somewhere. HUH??! But that was okay because I wasn’t quite ready to be adopted. And Daddy wasn’t quite ready to let another Irish girl in his heart.
God was bringing the plan together … and the timing was critical. We all had to be ready! … at the same time!
Mom sent Miss Bonnie an email on September 5th saying they thought they were ready for a new Irish girl in their lives.
And I was ready to be adopted!!!
Timing … it was critical! I was in my foster home in Louisiana … my new family was in South Carolina. That God watching out for this Irish girl had that worked out too … Miss Carolyn (my first peep) took me to meet a lady who took me to Birmingham. I spent the night in Birmingham and the next day, Miss Frazier, me, and her Irish Setter, all started out for Charleston, South Carolina.
It was a long trip and I was kind of nervous some about meeting my new family. What if they didn’t like me? What if they were mean to me? What if? What if? But you know what??? It was all just silly worry.
They WANTED me! ME!!
It’s been a year since I had those needless worries and I’m so happy in my furever home. My peeps treat me and Gabby like princesses … maybe even queens! Mom will run us to the doctor if we sneeze … not quite that bad, but almost! I get lots of love and snuggles and all I have to do is go up to Mom or Daddy to get some loving.
My life now is so different … I have a big sister, peeps who love me and never mistreat me. I go for a walk every morning with Gabby and Daddy. I have my own bed. I have my own food and water dishes on a stool so I don’t have to bend over real far. I have a bed in the den in front of the fireplace and my very own fluffy white rug in the den. (Well, Gabby has one too.) I go to the groomer once a month. Me and Gabby have a dog-sitter who comes to stay with us whenever peeps have to go away so that we get to stay in our own home!
I have become so totally rotten that no one from my former life would even recognize me. Mom says I stink I’m so rotten!!
I have had lots of adventures since I came here but the very best thing about my furever home is the security here. I am loved. I am wanted. I am spoiled. I am petted and pampered. Even when I’m bad (and I have been bad!) my peeps don’t beat me. No need … Mom just talking to me in that voice makes me wish I hadn’t been bad.
That God who was watching out for this Irish girl did a great job in bringing His plan for me together! Don’t you think so??? I do!
