Bright and early Mom took me to the vets and LEFT ME THERE!!! I was supposed to have my operation at 7:30, but since Mom left me and I wasn't in any hurry they made ME wait while the vet did some other stuff and some appointments.
Finally, just as Mom had about worn out the phone calling to see if everything was okay, they did me and found THREE puppies instead of the two they were looking for.
Well, after all, Mom DID say she was hoping for a cream male JUST like Lukie, my Daddy, but she was pretty sure that two brindles probably wouldn't have a cream male. The first time they called Mom and told her there were three she asked what they were and they said two boys and a girl. BUT, she didn't ask what color, silly woman.
Anyway, they said to come get me, but then they called back and said I was too cold so I had to stay longer. Mom was still grooming so she said fine, then she called back and asked what colors. They said one cream, two brindle, BUT Mom forgot to ask which was which.
Finally they called and said I could come home! Mom came right up and the minute she saw the cream one she KNEW it was HER Lukie Grandson!! Sure enough, it's MY boy! Mom says his name will be Lincoln, Link for short. The girl is very, very little like me and the other boy is the middle sized one.
I am still pretty wiped and groggy but Mom says the babies are nursing and everything looks good so far. OF course, it will be a LONG night!!! Payback is so fun, hehehe!
It is with a heavy heart and through tears that I report that Lola for some reason just killed her little baby Lincoln. She was acting fine with him, he was nursing and I left for two minutes to check another dog. When I returned he was dying and he died in my hands.
I was not going to write about this, but, sadly, this IS also a part of breeding dogs and it sometimes happens. I have NEVER had it happen before, but I understand these Frenchies do have c-sections and don't have any opportunity to respond to the mothering hormones which are usually released prior to and during whelping. I am sure in her mind she though she knew what she was doing but I will never know.
At this point the pups are alone and I will only allow them to nurse under supervision and see how it goes. Hopefully her maternal instincts will kick in and the other two will be fine.

Glad the Lola and the Two are fine.. but sad for you over the cream Lad.
I understand that the hormones dont kick in.. but just maybe she also sensed something wrong with the Little One ?
Hoping things settle.. and sending hugs........
Dat are sad about Lincoln - hoping all goes well with the other 2.
we can see the confusion in your face in your profile pic, lola..maybe you were just waking up from anesthesia..
congratulations on your babies!! we are so happy you are well!!
could you have sensed how much your mommy was smitten with little link and been jealous?
..louie is very jealous and insists on being the center of attention, he is a hog that way..we could be cuddling with nina and next thing you know louie has stuck his head under your hand or inserted himself 'inside' nina's cuddle and wriggles to shove her out.. i think yes, the caesarian did hinder your maternal bonding and once you are nursing a little longer it will kick in..
we have heard about this happening with pigs :'(
we mourn little linky with you..
i am so sorry for your mom, heartbroken
(the end of our comment didn't post?)
