Arrival Story:
I do a lot of rescue work with shelters here in NC and one in SC - the director in SC contacted me about an abused, overweight chocolate girl that was being ignored by adopters because she was so scared and refused to come to the front of her kennel. She was scheduled to be PTS and Janice believed in her potential. She practically begged me to take her and to give her a chance. When she came to the farm the first thing she did was to run away and hide under one of our outbuildings. She stayed there for a few days, we put her food and water under the edge of the building and eventually, she stuck her head out and started getting some attention from our other dogs. She gradually warmed up to me, but it was obvious that a man had been the abuser in her past life - she ran every time a man was near. Luckily, my husband is wonderful with dogs - on one of his trips home (he works in NJ)he started playing with her and won her trust. Now, a few short months later, he is the only man she'll tolerate and I really think she prefers him to me!! She was supposed to be available for adoption, but he won't let me give her up. Sammie is now our 7th furkid.
