Arrival Story: Katie, MUGGINS and I came back from the park and went to the Deli up the street for fuel. There was poor sick Puppylo' trying to get something to eat from a dumpster. Best guess of his age then is 9 months. I asked an employee about him and was told he had been hanging around for 3 days and they were now going to call animal control. No way! I pulled the car up close to him and he feebly got in when I opened the door. Took him to the vet where he was diagnosed with full blown Distemper. I was also told that it was a good possibility that he would not survive but he did at a cost.Distemper affects every organ of the body and when it gets to the brain and seizure activity starts it is over as the brain cannot survive. As I said he did survive and was happy and healthy for several years. As he approached middle age things started happening, he developed Glaucoma which we couldn't stop and eventually both eyes had to be removed. Blindness slowed him some but he still seemed happy and was always playful. About a year ago I realized that he had also gone deaf but he still enjoyed life as best as I could tell. Now he is dieing from many different failures and I thank God everyday that I have had him for close to 15 years. I know he is leaving us and no longer pray for a cure but just that he remains pain free. He can no longer walk but still eats and drinks when it is offered. My Mom named him and his name is a contraction for Puppy Love. Please say a prayer that he remains pain free until he leaves for the Rainbow Bridge.
