We finally decided that adding a dog back into our life would help me so once we agreed on the Breed I began the search . Not expecting to find a puppy for months BUT one of the Breeders I contacted and I clicked and she JUST happened to have a 12 week old puppy that she had decided not to keep after all. SO on New Years Day in a terrible Snow Storm we DROVE 12 HOURS to pick her up spent the night then drove 12 Hours home! She rode in my lap all the way home and has rarley left my side since then. Bio: Heddy Started Obedence training the Day she walked into the house and because we believe in POSITIVE Training she has loved learning. By the time she was 7 months old she had her CGC and her first leg in Rally. She recently got her second leg with a score of 98. I am sure she would be finished by now but I can only handle doing one show at a time and only if they are close to home. But as long as we are having FUN we will keep at it.
We have just started adding in the SDIT training. Her biggest issue will always be the fact that she loves people. And has a VERY hard time ignoring them when they try to pet her. That and learning she does not always have to add her two cents to the conversation. BARKING is still an issue with her. Forums Motto: Little Brown Dog Starving Down Here ! Boy I am really not very good at this Dairy thing. It has been 3 months since my last entry and SO MUCH has happened since then. In Nov. Heddy and I attended a 5 day show cluster and had a wonderful time. We did confirmation BUT there was no competition at my level. SO I WON every class. It did not mean much since the number one Border Terrier was there as a Special and she took BOB every day. But we had fun and we learned a lot! We also competed in Rally Obedience and WOW did Heddy do great. On Wednesday she did Rally Novice and got her title. Three shows and three Q ribbons. Then on Thursday we started in Rally Advanced Again Heddy was great. Q on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday she not only Qed but got First place and another title RA. On Sunday we started out on our quest for Rally Excellent. She had never learned to BACK so when we saw that was on the test we went outside and WORKED on it. Heddy was amazing in the ring and she not only Stayed with me she BACKED. I could not believe it when she Qed and got First place on her first attempt at her RE. Seven shows and 7 Qs I am a very proud MOM.
We have also started something new Canine Freestyle. Heddy was getting a little bored doing the same class all the time so we will be Dancing next session. We did a class on Sunday November 20th and had a great time. Heddy is working on learning new tricks and loves all of the off leash time. She actually works better off leash than on.
For now we have a month off of training to enjoy the Christmas Holidays and then BACK TO WORK in January. We will be doing Obedience, Rally, and Freestyle classes. That should keep us busy and tired.
I find it very hard to believe that my Little Brown Dog is One today. In some ways she is very much the tiny little puppy we brought home but in oh so many other ways she is truly an adult dog and one I am proud to say that I trained!
On Saturday I went to a Show and Go at our local club. I was asked to steward for Novice Obedience. I knew Heddy was not ready for PRIME time as they say so I was glad to help and learn more about Obedience. Of course Heddy was with me. She behaved wonderfully laid in her crate within sight of me. And never once barked or whined at me. Lots of strange dogs walking around her. Not many people showed up so the judge asked me if I wanted to see what Heddy would do. Now we have been going to class since she was 12 weeks old and we do RALLY BUT she has NEVER worked OFF leash anywhere but the back yard. BUT what the heck nothing ventured nothing gained. So into the ring we went.
She did OK for the first part. Her Heeling could have been better and she still wanders on leash. So I was very nervous about taking the leash off. BUT she was fantastic. Stayed right on my heel. Did a perfect recall and her long sit and downs were as good as anyone in the class and a LOT better than some.
I came home ONE VERY PROUD MOM.
