Arrival Story:
Pepe Le Peu had been abandoned in a public park and sprayed by a skunk, hence the name. He had been clearly neglected for a long time, even abused, judging from his fear of men. He had eye, ear and skin issues and poor teeth, and food issues-we think from the teeth he may only have ever been given bones to gnaw. He did not have the most promising of introductions for many people at the shelter: As Cocker Spaniel rescue said when I got him, "Pepe is a handsome tricolor Cocker Spaniel (black with tan markings and a splash of white on his chest). This good-looking older boy with a heart of gold is roughly 9 years old. Pepe was a stray who was found by Parks Department workers and brought to the Manhattan Shelter. He was immediately christened "Pepe Le Peu" because of his odiferous state. While wandering through the park, Pepe had apparently tried to make nice with a New York City skunk and received the royal treatment (a good spray). After multiple baths and a good grooming, Pepe is no longer sporting the unique cologne with which he arrived. He smells good and is looking very handsome. Pepe is a smaller size Cocker Spaniel with a compact, muscular build and a beautiful square muzzle. He looks to be rather well bred. Pepe is a "sure and steady" kind of dog who does not get ruffled by much of anything (skunks included), so should make an excellent family pet. Pepe will be checking his inbox daily for expressions of interest from prospective adopters, as well as for love-notes from his friend the skunk." Pepe got a lot less stinky and is truly the best dog you would ever wish for, like a living teddy bear. He may be 10 years young, but he is like a puppy in some ways.
