A Walk with Tug

Graduation Day - Beginning Dog Obedience

Tug graduated from beginning obedience this morning. He is doing really well on all of his obedience commands. Now we just have to work on the bouncing. He loves class time and when we speed things up he bounces along beside me. Cute, but not show ready.

He'll start the Advanced Beginning class later this month. In the meantime, we'll work on homework and enjoy a little vacation with extra swimming.

Dawg Days of Summer

Today the temperatures hovered near the triple digits and most of the dogs in the dog park were resting in the shade, but Tug was looking for a good game of fetch. While Tug goes almost everywhere with me, it is still a challenge to meet his exercise needs. He is a gun dog and requires daily vigorous exercise, regular swims, and mental challenges. Most days long walks, dog parks, and obedience practice have to do.

Yesterday Tug swam in the Hudson. It was dirtier than usual, but a little trash would not deter our water dog. He's overcome his initial fear of the waves and is eager to retrieve whatever we throw. He was just happy to be wet and working. Swims are always followed by a bath/shower.
