well last saturday was a busy day full of changes for me ... you see my foster mommy dound a little white shepard puppy that she liked and she called my old person who found me on kinda short notice and now i'm back at the other house with the fun little dogs..

any way i also gto to meet the SAVE-A -LIFE people at petsmart and they said i'm a pretty dog and i have a sweet face so there gonna help me find a forever home ..

any way .
Mary the lady that found me origannally stayed with me durrign adoptiogm day then when she had tro go home she stopped by the humane socity and they stuck this needle in my back and it kinda pinched but MAry says that now if i ever get out at least I can be traced back to her becuse there a little chip in my back, and that whom ever adopts me will now havea way to safely find me ,and it will keep them from stealing me .. any way ..

I', learned afew new commands i know sit now , and i can come to any of my names , although i se mto prefer distro , the old name mary used to call me ..
she also said something about this think called NILF and thinks i'd benefit from it ..

I'M a very active dog , and to make up for that MAry and Matthew have been runnnning me for a mile or so next to the golf cart , so i can burn off some of my energy ..

i like that ..

I still will play tag and catch me is a game if i ever get off leassh so who every takes me needs to understand that and keep a firm hold , or have a fenced yard.

any way here is my petfinder page and my care takers email..

He's the happiest dog I know.
On the first night I crated him,and he was quiet after about five protest "woofs." (The only sound I've heard him make, so far.)
On Monday I left him outdoors, and barred the inner door to my bonus room with a large, assembled show crate. By the time I got home, he had learned how to use the doggy door, and either he or Huna had moved the crate aside, so they both had full run of the house.
Since there was no destruction anywhere, I have continued to give him complete liberty whether or not I'm home. At night he sleeps on his own dog bed, next to mine.
Yesterday he took to carrying my slippers around, which I find dangerously close to chewing, but he seems content to carry them.
I don't know whether he and Huna play. Several times I have witness play overtures, but he seems to shy away whenever I look directly at them. However, they both seem extremely happy (not anxious) when I get home.
Yesterday evening, he bolted when I opened the door. Fortunately, he was already leashed, and ran straight to a neighbor standing in his driveway. He appears to have what would in humans be labeled "DDD" (Defiance Disobediance Disorder). When given a command he heads straight away, and acts as if his intent is not to do anything he is asked BECAUSE he was asked.
This is a little strange, since he is also extremely submissive.
My best guess is that whoever raised him did a lot of yelling a punishing (he also flinches a lot), and very little useful training. I have tried rewards (food, praise, petting), inducing behavior before praising, ignoring except when commanding or praising, and just letting him be. None of it appears to affect his behavior which is basically bimodal -- seek affection or bolt.
I once had a Shepherd-Chow mix who had a similar defiance streak. She had been a neglected puppy up until the age of 5 or 6 months, and never lost that pure core of "runaway to freedom." (Sadly, it killed her when she left me to go play in traffic one afternoon.)
The good news was that Little Bear (the name she arrived with) loved to be trained with the choke collar, and once she "got" her lessons, she would perform extraordinary feats of obedience -- except when she felt like running away. You could measure the lateral and forward spacing of her "heel" to the millimeter. If I said she had to "leave" the deer guts she was sniffing in the woods, she would walk away and never look back. And I could virtually command her with any conversational gesture.
My hope is that Doodles-Distro-Marco-Macro will be similarly awakenable, and soon, because as you already noted, he will bolt. Yesterday when he took off, before he slowed down for my neighbor, I was afraid that was the last I was going to see of his cute little tail, halter and Flexilead and all....
As soon as I can find one, I will invest in a chain collar, and try it out on him. Don't worry, it is neither cruel nor painful, and before the invention of the Halti and Gentle Leader, was THE accepted way to train dogs, especially older ones. I am very experienced with the so-called "choke collar," and have only once encountered a dog that could not/would not learn with a swiftly applied and released correction.
If Doodles-Distro-Marco-Macro is another such, we will have to find him a home with a fence and a yard that he never leaves -- because having seen that tail in flight, I know he will be in danger whenever he gets out.
Meanwhile, he is healthy, happy, soft and cuddly, and an excellent addition to my household.

PS: Regarding the name. On re-reading our correspondence, I noted that his original name was Doodles, which I think fits his face well, and makes a great name for a potential adoptee. However, when I tried calling him that, Huna came running. (The "oo" and "u" sounds being too closely related.) I sensed that you might be disappointed in my choice to rename him, and thus, in honor of his computer-related nomenclature, I am trying to morph his name from "Marco" to "Macro." I'm not sure if he can tell the difference, but the latter does not roll off my tongue smoothly yet, so we'll see.
PPS: I would almost think him deaf, he reacts so little to spoken commands. But, inside the house he comes when I quietly cluck my tongue. And, I once caught him drinking toilet water with my feces still swilling around. I yelled "NO!," and he stopped, and ever since then, whenever he's in my bathroom he lunges toward the toilet, then flinches and stops. This is a very good sign that when properly reached, he is educable.
