Arrival Story:
Moose came to live with us 0n May 25, 2010 when we adopted him from our local shelter. We had just lost our beloved 14 year old black lab, Hannah. We were heart broken at losing her, but not having a dog in our home just didn't feel right. I checked out the adoptable dogs available online before visiting the shelter and was immediately drawn to Moose. That's his shelter picture in his profile-he seemed to be smiling! He is so very sweet! He was picked up in the campus area and since it was mid-May when they found him, we assumed he might've been abandoned by a student when school was over. As sad as that is, their loss is certainly our gain. Moose has fit right into our home and family and although he had big paws to fill, it feels as though he's always been here with us. He is loving, well behaved, and has the coolest personality! We feel so blessed that we found Moose-we suppossedly rescued him, but truly we feel he did the same for us.

One month in!

Moose has settled in nicely. He's recovered well from his surgery, and has bonded with each of us, although he tends to be most loyal to mom. We're so looking forward to enjoying him more and more if the first month is any indication of what a great fit he is in our home. We were so nervous to adopt, not knowing any background on him, but he's proven to be a wonderful pet and has quickly become an important part of our family.

Much better!

Moose is beginning to settle down. Yesterday morning we went for a nice walk and even played ball for a short while last night. His incision looks nicely healed, he's eating well, and by all accounts he seems to feel great. Now that all the initial vet visits and procedures are done, we're looking forward to Moose continuing to settle into the family and get an even better routine. Moose has been with us for a month now, although it feels like he's been here much longer. He is dearly loved by the entire family.

We still miss our Hannah every day, but Moose has filled that empty spot in our hearts and lives. For that we're so grateful!

Post surgery-day 3

After Moose's neuter 3 days ago he has been much more active than we expected. He stayed overnight at the vet's the day of the surgery and came home the next morning. He did very well through the procedure and honestly, when I went to pick him up you would've never known he had just had surgery. In fact, since being home, he has been more hyper and active than before the procedure. He's usually fairly calm and laid back, so we're hoping this is a temporary response to his surgery. I took him for a nice walk this afternoon and he has settled some, so I'm thinking he just needs to get back to his daily routine of playing ball and taking long walks.

The vet told us to keep him quiet for the first 4-5 days. Easier said than done in this case. If he doesn't calm down, one of us is going to need some Valium!!
