Jack loves his toys - but they don't last long. On the first day he got the squeaker out. The next pictures represent days 2, 4, and 6. If any of you can recommend a soft toy that doesn't go to pieces so quickly, let me know!

From those first two entries you might think that all Jack does is look for ways to eat people food. I must admit that is a favorite passtime, but Jack is also eager to eat dog treats and his own dog food. He also enjoys playing fetch, going for walks, sleeping in sunny spots, and chasing the squirrel in the backyard.
That squirrel deserves special mention. It arrived in the middle of winter, the year before we got Jack. It dug itself a hole in a large maple tree near our back door. We discovered it by the pile of wood chips it left on the snow. From day one, it has been a very bold and assertive squirrel. When we got Jack, he ignored the squirrel for several days. But it kept walking down its tree and doing its squirrel noise TSK-TSK-TSK-TSK-TSK at him, so pretty soon, Jack began chasing it. He's on a chain, so I doubt he'll ever catch it. We had a beagle mix before that could catch squirrels, but that's another story.

At Easter time we boiled some eggs to dye. Our younger son dropped one on the floor and Jack snatched it right up. We tried to get it out of his mouth, and realizing the situation was urgent, Jack responded by swallowing the egg whole. Shell and all. We are pleased to report that Jack suffered no ill effects from this incident.
