Birthday: March 1st 1997 Arrival Story: She was owned by a couple that rescued her from Chula Vista Humane Society. I met them at the Robb Field dog park one day and noticed how cute she was. Papi and her became friends and one day they asked if I could adopt her. They were leaving her long hours during the day while at work and had to move soon. So, I said it was up to Papi if he wanted to adopt her into our home. She came over and it worked out just fine. Bio: Now, at age 13+ (we think), Coco has been diagnosed with an enlarged heart. In the past 6 mos. her heart has expanded up to her trachia, causing her to choke and unable to breathe too well. The Vet gave me cough syrup, along with her regular heart pills and diaretics to continue on but the future looked pretty dimm. The Vet recommended that if she appears to be blue in the mouth then to rush her to emergency.
Well that was 3 wks ago and Coco was coughing around the clock and the cough syrup was not enough. I decided to research online and found tumeric spice to reduce enlarged hearts in lab rats. Then after giving her tumeric, within 24 hrs. she slept through the night without coughing. This lasted a week and then the cough got worse again. So, I contacted www.caninehearthealth.com and they mailed me their hollistic kit for Coco's 8lb size and we started it right away. It's been since July 9 and Coco is coughing less, and seems to be adjusting to this whole new routine. She is going to the dog park every day now since we started the tinctures and the new formulas. We are so happy to see her more calm and not gagging all the time. I plan to take her to a pet communicator on Sat. at S Bark Dog Wash and can't wait to see what Coco wants and what Terri picks up on Coco and her health. I've Been On Dogster Since:
This is the second week for Coco on the Canine Heart Health Protocol. We are seeing good results and less coughing from her. She is still on her 1/2 Heart pill in the am/pm and 1/2 diaretic in am/pms. She is off the codine prescribed cough syrup from the pharmacy and have replaced it with Lobelia (1 drop as coughing starts up). The key is to keep the herbs/tinctures 1/2 to 1 hours away from the pharmaceuticals.
She enjoys 1 hydrotherapy treatment on her heart (hot cold water for 10 mins.) per day. It helps the blood flow to her heart and also relaxes the heart muscle. It gives it a workout and helps stimulate her.
The first week we used the kidney/immune cleanse and this week we are on the blood/liver cleanse.
July 21, Wed.
Coco is coming along better. She has been waking up around 4, 6, 8 ams for her 1 cough drop with water (lobelia). She seems to get exhillirated when getting up and down to go outside to do her thing. That's when the coughs get more noticable. Then I give her the drop as needed. At least she's off the codine one and that one just doped her out all the time and I had to give her 3 times the amt. and that could have put her in cardiac arrest - - I had no idea till the pharmacist told me.
We will keep you posted.
