The Long Cold Truck Ride

To come to our new home, my brother & I had to ride in something called a crate in the back of something called a truck. We didn't like it AT ALL. Saddle has been on a few short car rides before, but I always get sick in them, so my mom never made me go. This ride lasted FOREVER! After we got loaded, I heard my mom saying that it would be about 4 hours before we got to our new home. I'm not sure how long an hour is, but I'm sure 4 of them was a really long time. We don't like not being near our mom, she says we are overly attached because we bark & howl to let her know we miss her, so once we realized we couldn't see her once the truck started moving, we were quite unhappy. After awhile, nothing smelled familiar anymore, and we were scared, especially Saddle, he is the biggest chicken ever! Then, it started getting kinda chilly, it had been warm & sunny when we left our house. I don't like the cold, mom says I have more chihuahua blood in me than Saddle, cold never bothers him that much. I snuggled up to him to stay warm. Finally, the truck stopped, YES!! Then Mom gets out of the front & comes back to let us out, boy, were we EXCITED to see her! She hugged us, & even let me lick her face, which she never does. She said she was sorry we had to ride in the crate, & we got to have a short break. Wow, it sure was a lot colder now, and windy! Even Mom looked cold. She said she wished she knew it was going to be this cold where we were going, or she wouldn't have worn flipflops & capri pants out the door.
Then Mom said she was sorry, we had to get back in that horrible crate, but we were halfway there. HALFWAY!! I thought this ride was over, so did Saddle, he put up quite a fight going back into the crate. Even Mom looked sad we had ride back there, I think she would have rather we rode up front with her, but her mom said no, she didn't want dogs puking in her new truck. So we got back on the highway, howling just to let mom know we were still back there.
Then, it started raining. Yuck! Our crate was was pretty well protected, but between the cold, the rain, & being in this icky crate for so long, even Saddle started feeling queasy. Then the rain turned to freezing rain, which turned to snow. Man, we were not liking this at all. We could see Mom looking at us through the window, she looked worried, maybe she was howling too. Then the truck stopped! Mom got out and wrapped us up in our blankets & gave us some treats, that made it a little better, we LOVE treats! Then we had to get back in that dang crate again.
We had kinda gotten used to the noise of the highway, but it was still snowing, we could hardly see across the road now. And the truck was moving slower now, which I didn't mind, but it sure seemed like this half was taking a lot longer than the first half. Then the truck started moving even slower, and I could see cars all over the side of the road, pointing different directions than the others, & flashing lights coming from those cars that make those horrible whining sounds. It went like that for awhile, and we kept moving slower & slower. I'm glad we could still see Mom through the window, she never took her eyes off us. I was sure ready for this truck ride to be over.
Finally, the truck stopped. This better not be one of those "breaks" again. Mom came rushing around to let us out of that stupid crate & told us we were at our new home, finally. Turns out it had taken us nearly six hours to get here, instead of four because there was so much snow. And snow there was, we had never seen so much snow in our whole lives! Saddle loved it, the few times we had been in snow before he liked it, but not me. I think it should be illegal. I kept getting stuck in these things
called "snowdrifts" I would sink down & the snow would come up to my neck, I had jump out of them. I looked at Mom & told her she was nuts, but Saddle was completely oblivious to the snow, he jumped around like a deer in it.
Our new home is pretty nice, it's a lot bigger, so we have a plenty of room to run around in & chase each other. And, there is a PONY! I'm not really sure exactly what a "pony" is yet, but I intend to find out...tommorrow.
